I grunted at the sound of my alarm going off for the third time this morning. Why the hell do I need to get up so early? Oh yeah. I have to watch my sister. Why does my 16 year old sister need a babysitter? Well, she likes to disobey rules. She goes out to parties, drinks, gets in trouble, and never comes home when she's supposed to. The last time she was left home alone, we returned to a trashed house and a broken front door.
My parents are pretty uptight about almost everything. My mom works at a bakery, and my dad is a police officer. I don't understand the two half the time, but I love them. I slowly got up and walked to the bathroom. I could see that Alexa was still sleeping. I rolled my eyes and ran my brush through my long, blonde hair.
"Violet, wake your sister up, please!" my mom yelled from downstairs. I was already annoyed with today. I walked to my sisters room and picked up the pillow off the floor.
"Wake up, sunshine," I said as I threw the pillow at her. It took a few seconds for her to finally wake up, and when she did she wasn't happy.
"Why do you have to be such an ass? It's 9:30 in the morning!" she yelled, getting out of bed and putting a robe on.
"I'm an ass? I cancelled my date with Jax because I have to watch my 16 year old sister who can't stay out of trouble or be trusted home alone!" I yelled back. She got quiet and looked at me angrily. Stupid kids and their teen angst.
"Girls, downstairs! Now!" my dad yelled. Lex and I looked at each other and faked a smile while walking down the stairs.
"Yes, dad!" Lex replied to him.
"You need to be on your best behavior. Your mom and I are going out of town for the weekend. Your grandparents need help moving into their new house and I think it would be nice to get some time alone with your mom," he said to us.
"Wait, you told me this was a one day thing?! Now you're leaving for the whole weekend?" I asked, getting frustrated. There goes my weekend with Jax.
"Violet. Watch your tone," my dad said to me with finger pointed at me.
"Yeah, Violet. Watch your tone," Lex giggled. She really pissed me off sometimes. I grunted and sat on the couch and called Jax to inform him on what was going on. Jax and I were going on 2 years of dating. I met him my sophomore year of high school. I hoped that he would be my first. Yeah, I was 19 years old, in a two year relationship, and a virgin. Go me for being an outcast, right? As I talked to him on the phone, my parents began to take things to their car and get ready to head out.
"I'll call you later babe," I said, hanging up the phone. Lex went back into her room and I said goodbye to my parents.
The rest of the day was normal. My sister and I stayed away from each other, each of us glued to our phones. Everything was fine until night came.
"Goodnight, brat," I said to her across the hallway. Our rooms were parallel and I could see her on her bed from sitting on mine. She smiled and rolled her eyes.
"So, are we going to have a party or something? I'm bored, come on," she whined. She was laying upside down on her bed, her pink hair barely touching the floor.
"Asking already? Aren't you a little young to be partying?" I asked. She looked at me and raised her eyebrows. I bit my lip and thought about how I could be alone with Jax with no interruptions. "Alright. It's getting boring," I gave in.
"Finally, you admit-" she began to say before she got cut off by a loud bang downstairs. We both jumped up and looked at each other with wide eyes.
"Did you lock the door?" I whispered. She shook her head 'no'. I must have forgotten to. I began to walk to the stairs when I saw a shadow walk across. I quickly got back into my room and looked at Lex. We could both start to hear the footsteps of the intruder and we began to panic.
"Under the beds," she whispered. I've seen too many movies to know where it leads to, but at that point it seemed like a good idea. We both got under our beds and just kept looking at each other, afraid.
"Violet?" I heard a familiar voice ask. I rolled my eyes and giggled in relief. It was Jax. I got out from under the bed and walked downstairs.
"What are you doing here? I have to watch my sister and I will get killed if my parents find out you're here," I said as he pulled me in by my waist. There was something about his hazel eyes and light brown hair that just mesmerized me.
"Well I thought we could have some people over and-" he began to say before he was cut off.
"Did I hear party?" Lex asked, running down the stairs. I bit my lip and leaned against the wall.
"A small party. Nothing crazy," I sighed. I should have known it was going to be huge.
The night went on, a few people turned into thirty. What really sucked was that I was stuck babysitting my sister who kept bouncing from boy to boy. I sat on the couch where I could see into the kitchen and make sure Lex was safe. My phone vibrates and I clicked it open.
Mom: Coming home. Forgot a couple things.
My heart raced. Coming home? At 2 a.m.? I ran to Lex and let her know. We instantly cut the music and rushed everyone out. I didn't even get a chance to say bye to Jax. He must have left already. We got everyone out and looked around at the mess.
"You get upstairs, I'll get downstairs," I said to Lex. She nodded and ran upstairs. If my parents came home to this we would be done for. They'd take us to my crazy grandmothers and we'd be miserable. I was in the kitchen picking up when I heard the front door close and someone walking in. I rolled my eyes. It was probably Jax.
"Jax, help me clean up," I yelled. He didn't reply and I got a little annoyed. "Jax," I said, turning around. I stood there, not knowing what to do. I saw a man with a knife, standing in the kitchen door way. Definitely not Jax. "My parents are going to be h-home soon," I stuttered.
"No, sweetheart. They aren't. That wasn't your mom," the man said. My body shivered as he stared at me with his piercing blue eyes. My heart began to race and I heard Lex walking down the stairs. The man looked towards the stairs and my eyes grew wider. He started running towards the stairs and I did the only thing I could think of. I ran towards him.
"Lex, run," I screamed. I ran after the man who was running after Lex, who ran into her bedroom and locked the door. As the man caught up and slammed into the door, I ran and tacked him. We wrestled around as I hit him in the throat. I took the chance and ran down the stairs to the house phone. I began to feel a pain in my stomach. He stabbed me. He fucking stabbed me. He jumped down the stairs and looked at me as I was standing in the middle of the living room. I looked to him with wide eyes as the adrenaline left my body. My shirt was red and dripping from my blood. I took in a short breath and fell to the ground.
"Shit, I'm fucked," I heard him say. As my eyes began to shut, I could feel my body being lifted. I got a glimpse of my sister, peeking from behind the wall and her hand over her mouth as she saw me. I looked at her as a few tears came out. Then, I let the blackness take over.
