Chapter One: A Noble Soldier

It's been a couple years now since the fall of Wall Maria, I stopped counting a long time ago. Knock. Knock. "Miss London may I come in," a maid called from outside, I beckoned her in and she entered with a small tray of tea and a biscuit. She put them on my desk and left after giving me my schedule for the day.

Her name was Maria, oddly enough. She didn't really like me, get the job done and leave it is what happened every day. I got out of bed a bit after, and got dressed into what my 'parents' would call "peasants clothes". Crumbling my schedule I opened the window to the gardens and climbed out and closed it behind me.

It was by now at least 9:00 a.m. and the maid would be coming back in about ten minutes and it will take fifteen minutes to get out of the garden if I was careful and walked. Making up my mind at 9:05 I ran for it jumping and ducking through the oasis of green with highlights of red and purple flowers. The fence was coming into view as I heard yelling and stomping feet, they knew. Forcing myself to go faster I reached the fence, and climbed over just like old times not looking back when I reached the other side, I just ran.

9:30

I was now in the city surrounding the house at where I resided never daring to slow my pace even for a second, that was until I made it to the market. I slowed my pace and let myself get 'devoured' by the crowd. After a couple minutes I found myself at the Training Corps. Sign up station, whatever it was called. There was a quite a line of kids and all of them were with friends, I sighed with my unfortunate luck.

But the wait wasn't that bad really, listening to people's conversations and finally seeing that there was a big group that was just waiting on each other to get signed up I smirked at how short the line was now and that I was almost at the front. A few more people left the line after they were signed up and I was at the front.

They asked me basic questions like; my name, age, size, etc. The boring stuff. At the end they gave me a jacket and let me go on my way to the 'entrance ceremony' if you can even call it that. It was really in my opinion just a way so the Head Instructor: Keith Shadis could yell at the kids and is also an old acquaintance of mine no surprise there, my 'parents' knew everyone in power so they were on very good terms with everyone.

Some of the people he yelled at I learned were: Armin Arlert, Sasha Blouse, and Carmen Ferguson but the rest I didn't even bother remembering those were just the funniest ones so far. He was just about to pass me when he stopped and looked at me, offered his hand which I took and we shook hands, saluted to each other and he was on his way down the line.

I got a few odd glances for the rest of the ceremony but I didn't really care, let them look I couldn't care less. I put my arms behind my back again as I waited for the ceremony to end while he yelled that we would become titan food and what not. We were then dismissed to dinner which I was very happy for, less people would notice me go into the corner away from people oh hallelujah praise sweet Wall Maria. So everyone was off in a walking race to get away from Sir Shadis.

All the girls went into the girls' dorm to change so I did the same and found a light package on my bed that I was assigned to with a note on it:

Dear London,

I heard as I was passing your room one night that you were planing to leave to join the training soldiers. I know how much you hate it here so I won't stop you, so I've sent you some clothes since I know for a fact you will forget to think about dinner attire when leaving. I know you have it in you so don't loose hope just yet.

                                                                                              And good luck, Rose.

I smiled at the note, Rose was another one of the maids and she always liked me and I can say the same thing in return. Inside the package was a long sleeve white blouse and a brown skirt that would reach my shoes, sleeping attire, and somehow she managed to fit a pair of black flats in the small package as well. She has always been one to make at least fifty things fit in a simple basket so I'm not surprised. I changed quickly and left for the dining hall probably getting lost at least three times since I didn't know where the dining hall even was unlike most people.

When I entered the dining hall -finally- I was served my rations and sat a table in the corner where no one was sitting since they were all surrounding that one kid, Eren Jaeger I believe his name was. They were asking him all sorts of questions, and in my opinion they were just being rude. He probably lost somebody in that battle, but what do I know, loss is an old friend of mine. Lifting the bread to my mouth I started to eat silently and properly, on accident it has been embedded into my system at this point. They were asking him now what gate the titans came in and he wasn't able to answer, he didn't know. Of course I knew, I was part of the reason that hole is even there; it was the southern most gate, the easiest gate to get to.

Having nothing better to do I walked over and sat down at the far end of their table and answered the question before any of them could ask another question like the idiot I am. "It was the southern most gate," Everyone averted their eyes from Eren and for a moment he even looked relieved, "How do you know, miss I'm-on-the-good-side-of-the-Head-Instructor?" One of the boys sneered. I shot him a look that would even make Mr. Shadis cower in fear, he immediately raised his hands and backed away in .000002 seconds. "I lived right next to the cursed gate, I escaped on a boat and was adopted by some relatives" I lied smoothly. Standing up again I went back to my table waving goodbye and continued to eat the bread that I was given.

A boy named Jean then made a comment as he questioned Eren's motives and doubted if he could even take out one titan. To be fair, neither of them looked like they even have the willpower or strength  to kill even a small one. They both stood up to fight each other and the bell rang right before someone could throw a punch. They shook hands saying they over reacted and Eren left his body guard Mikasa I believe it was following right behind him. Jean told her that her hair was pretty, cute, the boy has a crush. But she just walked off after Eren after simply saying thanks.

Wow, she really knows how to friend-zone people. I chuckle softly and leave after everyone else does, goes to the dorms, and I go to bed. Or well I wished I did, some girls started to ask me questions on what went down at the entrance ceremony. I didn't really want to tell them but they insisted that I be social. "Alright, alright" I huffed, sitting down on the edge of my bed I became surrounded by almost every girl in the dorm, even the body guard was curious about it I guess since she sat down too. "Well my relatives are on some very good terms with people in the military, Mr. Shadis being one of them, I've met him a couple times so I guess he wasn't surprised that I joined the military." I shrugged and when they asked more questions I told them I was going to bed right before I made eye contact with someone I never thought I would see again.

It was Annie Leonhardt, my sister.
