May 22, 2005. That was the day of my diabetic diagnosis.
I was three years old when I got sick, I was sick for a while and I wasn't getting any better. I was shaky, fatigued, and was rapidly losing weight. Finally, my mom decided to take me to the ER. When we got there, we discovered I was actually going into DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis). DKA is a serious, even life threatening condition that occurs when you don't have enough insulin to process sugars and your body burns fat to fuel itself, which is why I lost do much weight. I was three years old weighing maybe 20 pounds (9.07 Kilograms). I had to be taken to ICU before any other serious issues, like seziures, started. I was in ICU for a few weeks and left the hospital a freshly diagnosed type one diabetic.
