"Ugggghhh." My friend is currently complaining about our game today. "I don't want to play, I just want to go trick or treating." I agree, but I don't say anything, only shaking my head and giving a little giggle.
We walk down the hallway, everybody rushing around us. "Last class, and then we have a little break before we have to get dressed," I tell her as we start heading up the stairs. "Yeah. I kinda can't wait, because of plans after the game." I know exactly what she is talking about because I have the same plans. "Me either. It's going to be fun." She winks at me, and I laugh in disapproval.
All hour, we listen to some boring lecture over literature. If I was a pure rebel, I would've fallen asleep. But I know I'd be in deep trouble if I did, so I tough it through and jot down some notes. I can't get my eyes off of him, probably the main reason I don't put my head down as she talks.
His smile, his eyes, his laugh, everything is so perfect. I'm so lost in thought that I don't notice my friend tapping me on my shoulder. "Felicia, come on, answer the question." I suddenly snap out of it, feeling my cheeks getting hot. "Miss Felicia, would you like to tell us how to find assonance?"
She looks at me like I don't know the answer, but luckily I do. Only because I studied it the night before getting ready for the coming up test on the following Monday. "Ummm, yeah. You look for two words that have the same vowel sound. But they can't be rhyming, so that's the tricky part."
I look down at my book on my desk and try to find an example in the poem. "On line 5, there is blame and tape. And this works because of the long A sound." The teacher looks at me with raised eyebrows, "Thanks Felicia." Then she walks up to the board and erases the lesson of the day.
Eliza turns to me, "Did you not hear her?" I shake my head, "I was spacing off." She smirks at me in a way to get me to talk but she already knows me, I won't budge. "Fine then, Snapchat me after the game." I'm not going to, but I nod anyways, right as the bell rings.
At my locker, Alex stops by. "Hey, good luck at your game. See you after?" I nod and tuck my hair behind my ear, already feeling my cheeks starting to flush. "Meet you at Sandy's, right?" "Sure. Can't wait." I giggle a little bit, looking down. And when I look back up, he's looking at me. I smile ,"Me either." I turn around and close my locker all the way and head down the stairs to the locker room.
