Chapter 1 - First Meeting;

2012

It was an early evening of May when Kang Seulgi was running late to practice. She was usually never late, it was the first time. She thought she had enough time to help her classmate with the lesson she did not quite understand, but it turned out that it took much longer than she intended.

She was now riding the bus, hoping she could make it in time to her company. Seulgi always was a model student, a model trainee, as well as a model daughter. She was smart, kind, bubbly, talented, caring, and very generous. She wasn't flawless, and definitely thought she was lacking a lot, but she was what everyone ought to be. She was envied by many; not only for her good vocal and dance skills, or for her good grades despite sleeping only for five to six hours per night, but also for her good personality. 

Seulgi checked her watch on her left, small yet gracious, wrist and heaved a deep sigh. She looked out the window, and watched the scenery moving in front of her, her eyelids getting heavier by the minute. Seulgi wasn't one to complain, but she felt exhausted. School, practice, homeworks, and the pressure she was putting on herself were tiring her.

She decided to listen to music until she would have to get off the bus. She swiftly took out her earphones out of her yellow uniform's pocket, and plugged them in her ears. Music always relaxed Seulgi, and would give her strength.

After a few minutes ride, Seulgi needed to get off the bus. Seulgi rushed out as soon as the doors opened. She ran with all her might to her company, mentally praying she wouldn't be late.

When Seulgi got a sight of the big building that was her company, she ran even faster, not caring about what the fans waiting in front of the building would think of her. It was Seulgi's fifth year as a trainee for SM Entertainment. She joined the agency through the open auditions that took place back in 2007, and she never regretted her choice of auditioning. She did have ups and downs, and saw her friends of her age debuting already, but she didn't think of giving up. There were times she wondered if she would ever be able to debut, and finally stand on stage just like in her dearest dreams, but she never allowed herself to be pessimistic about it. Seulgi was a very positive young lady. She was only 18, but she was already very mature for her age.

She sometimes envied her friends who could hang out after school, or during the weekends, when all she could do was practicing. Despite being 18 years old, Seulgi never went to any party. She was invited, but could never accept the invitations. Seulgi chose practice, or work over parties. Truthfully, she didn't even know what a party was like, so she imagined it to be just like in the movies she watches. Seulgi sometimes felt envious, but she knew being a trainee in Korea's top agency was something only a few could achieve. She also had a dream of her own, and she wanted to hold onto it.

Seulgi changed to a simple white shirt, and wore her favorite black Adidas sweatpants, as well as her white pair of Adidas Superstar sneakers. Adidas was one of Seulgi's favorite brands, she actually wore Adidas clothes even at home. She tied her straight jet black hair in a ponytail and swiftly closed her locker. She ran out of the small room that was full of lockers, as well as a few showers for the trainees to wash up after practice.

She finally made it to where she was supposed to be at, at least fifteen minutes earlier. She scanned the practice room with her monolid eyes, and quickly spotted her friends Bae Joohyun and Yoo Seungyeon doing their stretching together. 

Joohyun was the oldest of her friends, but also the oldest trainee. She was 21, and joined the agency back in 2009, while Seungyeon was only a year older than Seulgi, and joined SM Entertainment back in 2005 after winning the "Best Looks" portion of the SM Youth Best Contest.
