The Death Trials. Book 1: In The Dark

death, famine, hunger, that is the story of my life. everyone I know and love is now gone, well everyone except my mother and sister, and we try to live a normal life. ok, my life is nothing near normal, every day is a struggle, you could be killed anywhere and everywhere, you have no idea how long you will live for. how does the government know who dies? simple there is no government! it's more of a mix between cannibalism and anarchy, which are pretty much the same thing. there is a head though, the head is the person who "runs things" there are three heads who run three different areas, the food head, the death head, and the job head, we live our lives off these three heads, and yes why am I alive at 16? well its because I am guaranteed safety till I am 17, when I become an adult. how am I guaranteed safety? easy because my mother is the food head. the food head gives each family a certain amount in the morning and it has to last them the whole day, each family gets the same amount no matter how large or how small you are. the death head keeps track of how people die, how long they were alive for etc, they do that by, the day you are born inserting a device in your arm that shows if your alive or dead. finally the job head, obviously they give you jobs, but you have to earn your jobs by first, surviving for 17 years, and second by living in the dark for 1 year, if you survive, you earn your job, if you don't survive, well you die and go wherever you go when you die, so basically it's a death trial. by the way, I'm Christine and I am about to be in the dark.
