Second Best

Chapter 1

     A lecture in fifteen minutes. An assignment due at 11 a.m. She was going to be late for her 8 a.m. class and she roughly had three hours to do the assignment given to her a week ago which had completely slipped her mind. School had been such a drag lately because of the countless things that ran wildly through her mind.

      Ziya rolled over in bed and blinked at the ceiling.

Just a few more weeks Zi, you can keep it together.

She felt to her left and picked up her phone from her nightstand. 6 missed calls from Alex and an iMessage from David. She rung Alex while replying to David's text. He was her boyfriend of one year and four months and he was ditching her again for the sixth time this month telling her he had things to do. Deep down she knew something was wrong but she gave him the benefit of the doubt.

     Alex picked up after the fourth ring.
     
       ' Ziya Anai Ramsingh, where are you? Are you okay? You're running late! '

       ' Hi, hello good morning Mother Miserable, yes I'm okay and I overslept. ' she said while typing her reply to David telling him that it was okay and she'd reschedule.

      ' Who we texting? David? ' Alex asked, while she chewed on what sounded like ice.

       ' Yeah, sumh wrong and I have a gut feeling cause he keeps going around me but me cyaa put my finger on it ' she sighed.

Alex let out a sigh too and said ' be ready in ten, I'm coming to get you and breakfast is on you. '

  ' Alright no prob ' Ziya replied and hung up.

   She got up and made her bed, kneeling on the ground and said a small prayer. Checking the time, she made her way to the bathroom to get ready. After spending 10 minutes in the bathroom she finally got out. Already having curly hair, she massaged her coils with Cantu Coconut Curling Custard and laid her edges with Eco Styler gel. She pulled out a pair of Adidas joggers and a white t shirt.

     Before putting on her outfit she moisturized her body with coconut oil. After she got clothed, she sprayed her favorite fragrance, Empress by Sean John, grabbed her phone, knapsack, keys and earphones and headed out. She ran downstairs to open the exit door to her dorm and went outside. Just at that moment Alex pulled up in her dad's black Ford Ranger. Ziya got in and Alex drove off heading to Burger King.
