16th birthday|| Ruby

he grabbed my hands and placed them around his shoulders then wrapped his arms around my waist. pulling us closer together. as we danced i continuously looked at my feet trying not to mess up and make a fool of myself. Ruby grabbed my chin and raised it so that i was looking at him.

"Don't worry about your feet. just feel it." he said eliminating almost all the space that was between us.

my face immediately turned bright pink.

soon enough everyone's attention was on us. i began to get nervous and tripped over my own foot.

"Hey shhh... ignore them... no ones watching... it's just you and i... focus on me." He said looking into my eyes.

there was a whole zoo in my stomach at this point . I was dancing with the boy of my dreams, to my favorite song, on my 16th birthday, with everyone i love watching. Nothing could ruin this moment.

"Ruby i need to tell you something..." i worked up the courage to say.

"What is it?" he said with a smile.

Come on Y/N. Breathe. Nods your chance. you can do this.

As i opened my mouth to speak i saw Cesar go over to my "Aunt", Ruby's mom, and whisper something in her ear. She look at me with the most concerned look. She began to walk over to me then whispered "Y/N, Your father's outside."

"My what?!" i asked confusedly.

My dad hasn't been in the picture since i was 4. all i knew about him was his name and what he looked like but i didn't care because he left my mother, my brother and i.

I look at Ruby who's face was plastered with shock.

"This has to be some kind of joke." i huffed angrily walking into the house and towards the front door. The squad and my "aunt" followed.

I turned the cold handle and pulled the heavy door open. Sure enough there was a tall white man, with light brown hair, dimples and hazel eyes. god i look just like him. i collapsed to the floor and began to bawl my eyes out. i never cry. like ever. only time i did cry was when my mother passed away... but all the pain and the sleepless nights came back to me.. and all those times where i didn't cry because i was "too strong" we're just coming up up. Olivia's arms wrap around me as i sat there sobbing.

"Leave! i want you gone! leave just leave!" i screamed between sobs.

Monse and Oliva helped me up and took me inside, my "aunt" at my aid with a makeup wipe.

Jamal, Cesar, and Ruby continued to stare down the man know as my father.

"What do you want?" Cesar snapped

"I knew it was Y/N's birthday so i thought i'd swing by and drop this off." the man said hold out a bag.

Jamal aggressively grabbed the bag and took it inside.

"Why?" Ruby asked.

"Why what son?" the man questioned.

"First off im not your son." Ruben said stepping closer to the man but Cesar grabbed his forearm holding him back, "secondly why did you leave her? huh? why did you break the one little girl that loved you more then anything in the world?!" Ruby spat, getting louder and angrier as he spoke. "You just made a girl that has only ever cried once in her life break down and sob. She doesn't deserve it. she doesn't deserve any of it! You left her for 12 years and now suddenly you're back?! Where were you when her mother died? huh? where were you when she moved to Washington? where were you when she started middle school? where were you when her brother went to prison? where were you when she got in her first fight? where were you when she needed you the most?! you were no where! she was breaking! she needed her father! but you were no where to be found! i was there for her when you weren't!" he screamed almost crying now, "she's in a gang now. the Santos. i hope you're happy because you're part of the reason she's in that gang. she was only 4, she never did anything to hurt you. But you still left... and you missed out on seeing an amazing girl grow up. You know she's a straight A student. yeah. She wants to become a mechanic, she really good at it too. She is so ambitious & driven. She has the most infectious laugh. She loves adventure. She can't sleep with lights on. She has a teddy bear named Cameron that she takes everywhere. She hates applesauce, rudeness and clowns. She loves books, sweets and family. She's a total badass and such a nice person. And it sucks that you know nothing about her because she is the greatest person i know. i love her...." the Latino boy paused at the realization of what he said, "yeah.. i love her with all my heart and i know everyone else that has met her does too. now i'm only gonna ask you once before i beat your ass into the pavement. Leave and never comeback. she's lived 12 years without you i'm positive she can do another 70." he finally said with tears streaming down his face and his patience growing thin.

the man inhaled then said, "can you tell her i'm sorry", before leaving.

Ruby wiped the tears off his face before going back inside with Cesar.

We were sitting on the couch and i was still in Olivia's arms but no longer crying.

"Y/N, you okay?" Ruby asked putting his hand on my knee as he sat down.

"Yeah.. i heard what you said out there.. thank you..." i said sitting up and giving him a half smile.

he smiled back but looked like there was something else he wanted to say.

"Ruby, what is it?" i asked curiously.

he took a deep breath then said, "Y/N i like you. like, like like you. i might even love you. i've felt this way since the 3rd grade and i've tried to hide it all this time. i even tried liking someone else but at the end of the day you're the one that i want it always been yo-"

i cut him off my quickly smashing my lips into his.

"i like like you too Ruby" i said breaking our connection.

he smiled. The squad and even my "aunt" began to cheer.

"The night is not completely ruined. let's go back out there and dance!" Monse exclaimed while pulling Cesar off the couch and into the backyard.

we all followed and began to dance the night away. for a horrible 16th birthday... it wasn't all that horrible.
