Valentina POV
It was a foggy moonlit night, as I sat in my new apartment looking out the window at the crowd of young teenage boys and girls yelling and laughing, smoking cigarettes, and walking into a near by club.
I cringe at the sight of drunken men stumbling through the streets shouting vulgar things to the girls nearby.
I don't know how I'm going to deal with living alone in this big city, considering I left my old town without saying a word, this wasn't a bad start.
I'm glad I left my old life, the one that scarred me and took away my innocence and pure happiness. I try not to think of my horrible past but it's impossible to forget such horrible things. I'm just glad I made it out alive.
I leave my thoughts when the doorbell rings, at first I'm scared to open it but I tell myself I need to stop overthinking. As I open the door I'm met with a woman around 65 years old, smiling at me while holding a plate of cookies.
"Hello" I smile.
"Hello dear! My name is Mrs.White" "I heard you're new to our complex and decided I wanted to stop by and meet you, you're so beautiful by the way!" She said with a wide smile.
"Thank you Mrs.White, I'm Valentina, it's so nice to meet you!" I said while admiring her joyful self.
"Well dear, I brought you some home made cookies! To welcome you to our complex! I'm right down the hall, two doors down honey. If you need anything don't hesitate to stop by!"
"Thank you Mrs. White it's so kind of you, I didn't expect this at all!" I smiled, while receiving a wave and smile in return.
I closed the door and sat the cookies down on the table, as I walked over to my bedroom i realized I was done unpacking my things. Relieved I didn't have to spend the next day setting up my apartment, I lay down in my bed thinking of my new life. My new beginning.

THE NEXT DAY
I woke up with a ray of sunlight hitting me directly In the eye, looking around at my surroundings I must've fallen asleep last night as I saw myself in the same clothes.
I head over to the bathroom and start a shower letting the water heat up as I brush my teeth and pick out an outfit for the day. I planned to go out to the mall and go shopping for a few things so I decided to go with an oversized sweater, some leggings and my adidas tennis shoes.
I washed my teeth and jumped in the shower, sitting there for a minute. I finally felt like I could start fresh, I finally felt happy.
I got out of the shower, changed into my outfit, put my hair in a bun and threw on a bit of concealer, lip gloss and some mascara. I grabbed my purse along with a banana muffin set on the counter top and headed out to my car, locking the door behind me. I drove to the mall and parked in the nearest space, walking out and staring at the huge building in front of me. The mall was huge compared to the one back in my old town, and that made me very happy.
I walked around for a bit admiring every store and trying to hold myself back from buying anything unnecessary. As I walk in to a beautiful store, I immediately noticed a gorgeous short black silky dress. I had to try this on.
I called on a girl by the register to help me try this dress on. She walks over and I notice her name tag says 'Olivia', with a smile she greets me and says "Hello! My name is Olivia! How can I help you!" I smile and show her the dress, "I would love to try this on!" I say. "Perfect! Come right this way!" She says as she leads me into a fitting room. I begin to take my clothes off, carefully putting on the dress. I walk out and look at myself in the mirror, this dress was perfect! It hugged my body in all the right places and accentuated my long legs.
At the corner of my eye I notice Olivia smiling and gawking at my reflection in the mirror. "That dress is made for you! If you don't take it I will!" She says. I laugh and nod, assuring her I was definitely going to take this dress with me.
On our way to the register Olivia asks me about myself as I tell her I just moved into the city. Never telling her the reason why. "You seem to need friends huh? I'll tell you what, I'll show you around on my days off! I know what it feels like to be the new girl" she laughs. "That would be great Olivia, thank you." I smile. "Here, put your number in while I ring you!" She says while taking the dress out of my hands. I begin to type in my number, saving it under Valentina and handing the phone back to her with a smile. "What a beautiful name you have" smiling as she stares at her phone. "Thank you, I'm named after my grandma" I say. She smiles and hands me my bag while I swipe my credit card paying for my dress. "I'll text you Val! It was so nice meeting you" she says before I leave. "It was nice meeting you too! I'll be waiting for your text" I laugh.
Feeling accomplished with my purchase I start walking out of the mall, towards my car. A few minutes later I'm back at my apartment. I look through my fridge and realize I need to go grocery shopping. I change into something more decent and head out once more. I pull up to the nearest super market and get off locking my car. I grab a cart and start walking through the aisles grabbing only what I thought was necessary. As I'm walking over to the cereal section I notice a tall curly haired boy, as I stare I can't help but notice his beautiful green eyes scanning the different cereal boxes. I daze off admiring him, he had tattoos and piercings giving off a bad boy vibe, he was wearing all black, his muscles visible through this black shirt. I'm brought out of my thoughts as I notice him staring at me as if waiting for an answer. "I'm sorry, did you need something?" I say blushing hard. "I was wondering the same thing" he says with no expression. I can feel my face getting red. "I'm sorry you looked familiar" I lie, looking away trying to hide my face from him. "Oh, okay then. Goodbye" he says bluntly grabbing a box of cereal as he begins walking away from me. Speechless I watch him turn the corner. Why is he so rude? I think to myself, yet again I was the one staring.
Shrugging the awkward moment off I finish off my grocery shopping and begin walking towards a register. After I pay I head to my car, putting everything inside, driving off the parking lot. As I'm driving I can't help but think about him, he was so mysterious. Making him even more interesting than he already looked. I laugh at my thoughts accepting the fact that I would never see him again.  Strangers, that's what we were.
