The canteen was filled with laughter and chaos. People were scattered at every corner , on every table, mingling with hint of gossips and boring discussions regarding their studies.
"Do you guys know that I caught different signal yesterday on heathkit ham shack?" Mike interjected Lucas and Dustin's ongoing fight about high score spree in arcade.
"When?" Will asked
"Did you heard anything?" Lucas asked interested while Dustin chomped nougat listening
"Not exactly. I asked if anybody was there but there was no answer but then I heard distant voice of a man" mike explained enthralled
"What did he say?" Lucas asked again, with now three heads and 6 eyes gazing at him curiously excited
"I'm home" mike replied still holding their gaze.
Lucas slapped his hand on desk irritated "ugh it must've caught wrong signal mistakenly or something" mike shrugged still not sure it really happened by mistake.
"Maybe tomorrow we could try again" will suggested
Dustin munched his bar, tugging sleeve of his stone wash denim calculating his time left before lunch period ends.
Still 10 minutes remains, he noted.
"Hey guys guess what?" Dustin asked excitedly
"What? You lost your three musketeers bar again.?" Lucas asked irritated for his own silly reasons
"No!" Dustin replied offended "max is here in Hawkins" he stated still excited, glancing at each one of them individually.
"Max as in your girlfriend?" Will inquired curiously
"Yes" he nodded ever so slow pleased and proud of himself grinning
"Oh that's cool" mike replied with small smile
"Yeah" Will nodded with big smile
"She's going to meet us tomorrow after school and then we can decide what we could do next" Dustin stated his plan describing with intrigue
"But I promised to meet el tomorrow after school. We decided to visit hopper" will informed with frown
"Ok then postpone it. We agreed to meet max once she's back in town" He reminded finishing his chocolate bar with one last mouthful bite.
"I know" Will said with frown
"How about you call el too to meet us tomorrow after school" mike encouraged Will to avoid his frowning
"Yeah plus we haven't seen her till now just like max" Lucas pointed out "it would be fun" he continued patting his back while Will face beamed at the idea
"This is called killing two birds with one stone" Dustin exclaimed rasing his for high five but Lucas was glaring with deadpan.
"Okay we will meet tomorrow after school at bike rack, you inform el.." he pointed at Will with his high five betrayed hand "I will inform max"
As if on cue bell rang declaring end of their lunch period all students slowly dispersed along with mike, Lucas, Will and dustin to their respective classes.
The day passed in blink of an eye.
Mike was back at his house treading upstairs not before yelling "GET A ROOM" to his sister.
At first it was really gross for him to witness his own sister Nancy sharing oxygen, exchanging spit and sucking each other faces with his best friend's brother Jonathan. Well Lucas and Dustin were also his best friend.
