I stared at the looming building before me. It was a high-rise apartment building, the exterior a shining blue glass, with the words "Carter Apartments" in big, gold letters above the main entrance. I checked my phone to make sure I wasn't late. 5:00pm flashed on the screen. Right on time.
"Alita Moore?" A voice called out. I turned towards it, and found a young lady who looked like a picture perfect barbie, with waist length, wavy pale blonde hair, big golden brown eyes, and the ideal hourglass figure. I felt dull in comparison, but could not get over how beautiful she looked.
"Yes?" I replied cautiously. I couldn't believe some random model just walked up to me and knew my name! How was that not suspicious?
"Oh, thank goodness, I thought I asked the wrong person for a sec. Whew! How embarrassing would that have been, eh?" She began, laughing nervously, "my name is Nina Taylor. I work at Carter Photography, and I'm also the one you've been paired with for your internship. Follow me, and I'll show you your apartment!" She explained, sending me a blinding smile of extremely white, and perfectly straight teeth. I grabbed the luggage cart and followed her inside the building and into the elevator. Nina pressed 43, and the elevator began to ascend. When we reached the floor, Nina led me down the hall to 43C.
"There are only four complexes per floor, and luckily, mine is just down the hall, forty-three A. And on the floor above us is the penthouse of Mister Carter and his family. His only child, Quinn lives there as well, and you'll see them around the company's building during your internship." She continued as she opened the door to the apartment. "Each complex is made based off of the person occupying it at the moment. From the information you sent in with the application and resumé, we hope this is to your liking."
As the door swung open, I couldn't stop the gasp that escaped my lips. It was brightly coloured. There was so much character! I had never been more in love in my entire life.
"I get to live... here?!" I asked, a wide, toothy grin spreading across my face.
"Yes, of course! Do you like it?" Nina asked, a hint of worry in her voice.
"Like it? Like it?! Are you kidding?! I love it!" I practically screamed. At that response, Nina burst into laughter. "This place is like something out of my dreams! The colours! The view...!" I trailed off staring out the large window in the living room. "The city! The lights! The character of this place! Oh, I'm so in love right now." By now, my eyes were shining brightly like a child on Christmas morning.
I dragged the cart inside, piled high with boxes full of my belongings. Luckily, the apartment was furnished, so I hadn't had to worry about buying a bunch of furniture.
"Oh shoot, I gotta go. You'll be okay unpacking, right?" Nina asked, glancing at the clock on the stove.
"Yeah, I'll be good. It was nice meeting you!" I called out as she rushed out the door. I grabbed a chair from the dining table and climbed on top, and began carefully bringing down the top boxes off the cart and setting them on the floor, sorting them by room.
When the last box was off and the cart was empty, I dragged it back out of the apartment, sliding my keys into my pocket, and went back in the elevator to return the cart.
After a good three hours more, I had finally unpacked and placed all of my belongings. Feeling satisfied, I plopped down on one of the bar stools that surrounded the breakfast bar. I opened up my laptop, and went on facebook to message my best friend, Anthony.
Tony: How's the new place sunshine?
Me: it's great! It's got so much character, a fab view, and all of the people at the complex work for the company!
Tony: that's awes! Can't wait to see it in a few weeks!
Me: same! Anyway, I gtg. I start at 7 tomorrow so I should get some rest. Night tony
Tony: alright, have a good night sunshine!
I closed my laptop and went into the bedroom, flopping down on the gorgeous queen sized bed and quickly fell asleep.
