you are the falling leaves on an autumn night
in the full moon before it wanes,
you are bright city lights,
my pen when it writes,
and i am droplets when it rains
you are books and cameras and quiet parks
in the suburbs or out by the lake,
you are sarcastic remarks,
fireworks, when they spark,
and i am promises
after they break
you are green eyes and wholeness in empty days
in the car as we drive to the coast,
you are the ocean, the waves,
the crystals in caves,
and i am falling apart more than most
you are stars, luminous,
before they fade from skies,
i’m the risk you were willing to take,
you’re the hues of sunrise,
and the love in honest eyes,
always here by my side when i wake
