"What's up baby?" I said into the built in telephone. Black looked back at me as he leaned into the hard black chairs. His appearance changed drastically. There were cornrows neatly braided into his hair. The short beard he once wore wasn't lined up and was slightly patchy.
Black didn't say anything, he just looked at me like he wanted to rip my head off. My eyes hit the floor as a sign of being guilty. "Pick ya fucking head up." My head rose as my eyes looked into his dark brown eyes.
"It was about to down. There was no choice." My eyes checked around the room for the police officers. It was two in the far corners and I'm pretty sure they couldn't hear what we conversation about. The room was filled with loud women, crying children and complaints. We were the furthest thing from their mind but I still stayed alert.
"Your ass gone end up behind bars if you don't do shit smartly." There was a territory agreement that was supposed to happen last night. It was a set up. The meeting was supposed to go down in the garage of the party spot. His body guards were at our doors with guns cocked waiting for us to get out the car. We left a slight trail that caused Black to fix it on the inside since he was tipping off the officers.
His boys sent the bread to the officers in boxes and the authorities kept everything quiet. The only thing they couldn't do was keep my husband out of jail. That shit pissed me off but I wasn't going to knock out trust. If there was any other way, the police department would've went down right along with him.
"Don't worry, I got this next time. Maybe, you should be careful who you confide in."
"I'm in here. That's your job now T. You a smart girl, this shit ain't rocket science."
"How I'm supposed to know when you tried to set some shit up from the inside?" My tone got aggressive. His face got meaner by the second as he twisted his lip up at me.
"Lower your voice." A exhausted sigh came from my mouth. I palmed my face and ran my hand through my short hair cut.
"Call me tonight. There's an important meeting for me to attend at three. It's for the school district."
"You know we have to buy half of that property to protect the streets. No drug dealers or none of that shit near the school. We clear it out."
"Alright, I'll tell the boys who deal on that block to lay off."
"There ain't no need. They know who you married to. Ain't nobody stupid." Black cockily said. I chuckled at his comment. He smiled seeing me laugh. Black was usually this big goofball, but lately it's been about business. I have enough money from my own career but things happen. After marrying Black and finding out what he did, this was bound to happen. I knew what I was dealing with at that moment.
After leaving the prison, I zoomed straight down to the board district meeting. The white people standing around were shocked to see my ass hop out this Audi S7. You could tell it on their pale ass face. Their eyes showed that I pressured them, that's why everybody was staring at me. It wasn't even on no cocky shit, it was just the usual.
"Hello, I'm here to see Mrs.Gene." I said giving the receptionist my appointment card. The receptionist smiled at me as she began typing in the information. My eyes roamed around the facility checking my surroundings. At the corner of my eye, Black's boys was pulling into the parking lot. I'm a strong woman, but I couldn't be caught slipping.
"She's up at the conference room in 367." The lady handed me back the card as I went towards the elevator. This place was packed as usual so the elevator was cramped. Once I arrived at the conference room, all eyes were on me.
I wasn't late. Five minutes early for my appointment. There was a black chair in the middle of the table so that's where I sat. Everybody were making negations about other building properties and discussing the bus transportations. There was only one thing I was here for and it would be handled.
"What do you think Mrs.Taylor?" My head turned and faced this old white man. Mr. Richards. It seemed as if he was in his sixty's and was strictly business. You could always tell a man's work ethnic by the way he dressed from head to toe. A smile crossed his face that showed one gold tooth in the back of his mouth. An old cat.
"I'm only here for one thing."
"As in?"
"That's not for me to discuss with you." Mr.Richard chuckled as he started taking off his white jacket. My back leaned into the chair observing his motions. The way he was sizing me gave me the indication he was familiar with me or my work.
Mrs.Gene snapped her fingers. People started getting up from the table and collecting their papers. The meeting was adjourned for the people who wasn't involved in this business deal. Everybody was gone by five minutes and the only thing left on the table was a pen.
"The property is worth one million. I don't expect much from you considering your work ethnic. The most you could do for it is at least fix the roads and make profit off that."
"My work ethnic is very prestigious." I clapped my hands three times giving the boys the signal. Five of them came into the office startling Mrs.Gene as they carried a glock 17 in their hands. It was equipped with a silencer if things got too messy. "A step ahead of you. I saw your boys standing outside the door of the building. The way you dress them is how you dress yourself."
"Mrs.Taylor, my deepest apologies..."
"No need to apologize. I already deposited my money for the property so at this moment everything is mine. I expect a paper that has my name of it owning it so there wouldn't be any future legal actions. You rich people like to get petty so my eyes is always open."
"Mrs.Taylor, please call off the meeting so we can handle this meeting like adults." Mrs.Gene said shakily as she started reaching in her suitcase. A brown folder was slid across the table. My head leaned to the side signaling one of the boys to open it. The short one in the back caught my drift and did as told. The folder was opened and he confirmed to me it was the papers in my ear.
"The thing is Mrs.Gene, we are handling this as adults. I'm doing this so the black communities will stay protected from rich white motherfuckers like you two. No more dope boys. If I find out any of you are promoting any drugs or alcohol as such in my community, there will be trouble. Shit will get deadly."
"Is that a threat? I don't take those kindly." Mr.Richards said as he turned his nose up at me.
"It's not a threat. It's an guaranteed fact. Now, excuse me." In that orderly fashion, I left out the meeting with my papers. Another successful meeting. A black school district protected.
