I Cry Alone

[1] Death by Train

Stars swept across the ebony sky, littering my wandering eyes with tiny specks of joy. My mind racing I slid my window open and slipped my feet out into the grass. I didn't bother to close the window back up, I was to exited.

My little hands reached towards the sky as I ran across the street and through the playground. Feet pounding against the forest floor I could feel I was getting closer.

I stopped.

There was a clearing up ahead, where the train tracks passed through. I skipped on over to them and plopped down onto a piece of wood.

Twirling my hair in my fingers I waited, I only thought of the stars. How does anyone of my age think of more than one thing at once? I certainly can't. Stars. The only thing that fascinates me.

I looked up.

A bright light lit the whole clearing. The sound of its arrival shook the tracks. I giggled, reaching out for a hug. The train finally reached my embrace, one loud bang was all it was and...

I was gone.

Every night my parents would tell me stories at night about my ancestors. How they would fight in wars and live in castles. But none of that really struck me as interesting. They also told me that when those people passed away their spirit would fly up and sit on the stars, watching us grow.

That's what fascinated me, I wanted to touch the stars just like them. Unlike most people in this world, I make my dreams come true.

My body was found the next day, I don't know why everyone cried. Don't they know my dream has come true? I can finally touch the stars.

But the I saw my mom. I ran over to her as fast as I could. But as our bodies met, hers just passed through me. I was confused.

Then another passed through me.
And another.
And another.

I sat down watching as they carried my limp body to a car. I looked up, the stars were gone and the sun was out.

My arms wrapped around my body tightly. I cried. Though there was many there, I felt alone.

And alone I was.
