The rain

"Hermanita" a feminine voice wrapped around the air around me and filled me with familiarity.

I cocked my head back, a smile forming itself onto my lips as the rain hit my face aimlessly.

"Come inside" her hand softly grasped onto my wrist she tugged me towards the door. My feet stayed planted under the pale moonlight. "Just a couple more minutes"

I inhaled, the earthy smell being almost intoxicating.

She let go of my hand, crossing her arms as she stood under the porch's protection. A bare bulb hung from the middle, it's yellow light not being much of contrast and adding just a touch of light to her gorgeous face.

The water droplets danced off the gutters adding to the refreshing night. The rumble of distant thunder only making me sigh, at that moment it was only us two.

"I'm- we have to move back to the west side" She spoke suddenly with a sudden tremble.

I kept my eyes trained on the sky.

"Why"

"Because-"

"Because of Javier, huh?"

She shook her head "I'm.. Your going to be an aunty" her eyes stared down at me with so much stillness, the world seemed to stop.

The rain faltered for a second and then came back with a much harder force.

I couldn't remember how to breath. My head slowly turned to get a good look at her .

Her brown hair cascaded down her left shoulder. Her big eyes had narrowed her attention was at her fingers as she picked at them nervously .

I shook my head.

"But we moved." I shifted uncomfortably "-we moved because you thought I was pregnant. But you ended up expecting a kid."

"Paola we are moving back to the west side."

"What would of mom and dad wanted"

"To go back... to get involved"

" A Narco directly involved with gang members. I've never heard of that."

"Me neither... me neither"

A smile played at her lips and just like that she brought her hands to her face and started sobbing. Her shoulders shook with such intensity it terrified me.

I moved to comfort her, prying her hands away. I chuckled, she gave me a wierd look.

"So we are moving huh?" A grin filled my face

She nodded wordlessly.

"So, do you want a boy or a girl."

She looked taken back "A girl" her voice was a mere whisper.

"What's her name going to be?"

"Maria Elena"

I smiled. My eyes closed, I grimaced as a sour taste filled my mouth. A tear rolled down my cheek.

"Just like mom, verdad"

She nodded a laugh sprouting from her lips.

"You know it's a good thing you covered your face when you were crying... because baby, you ugly cry" I snapped my fingers wiping away the lone tear.
