The girl walked down the street as she gazed longingly at all the families playing around in the roads or their front lawns. All the children ran, squealed, and giggled chasing each other around as if they didn't have a care in the world. Their parents sat on the front porches of one story houses, all with similar designs. They lounged and talked with each other about this and that, contented smiles on their faces as they watched their young ones play. Around her was a place she has longed for, for the joy, the elation, the freedom that she witnesses around her. For a place she is able to call home. Instead, she is stuck with him, the man who has made her too scared to go about, scared to live her own life, to break away. Dread prominently filled her at the sight of the place known as her home, the place were she is abused.
Opening the door, she walks into the silence and darkness. Looking around her open plan house, she sees that he must have gone on a rampage this morning. The living room is destroyed, the tables on their sides and glass shattered everywhere. Continuing into the kitchen, she sees the cabinets almost hanging off their hinges and the silverware thrown about. Sighing, Nevaeh proceeds to start cleaning up the mess that he left, knowing that if she didn't her punishment would be despicable. She began making dinner in addition to cleaning up the mess he had left for her. Although she most likely wouldn't receive any. She didn't dare try to sneak some either, he always found out-always. Suddenly, the jingle of keys could be heard as the front door was unlocked. Immediately, Nevaeh scurried over to the table and sat with her head down, hands in her lap. She heard him before she saw him, the stumbling and the slur of foul words that he used to describe her being heard clearly throughout the silent house. She wanted to look up, to see what type of mood he was in. Would he beat her again today? Would he pretend that she didn't exist? In a flurry of events, she was on her back, the side of her head throbbing from the punch he had thrown at her. Looking up, her body ran cold. She knew that look, his eyes were soulless and empty, a haunting, terrifying grey. Her question had been answered, he was going to beat her again.
He began screaming, calling her degrading names that no child her age should hear. His tanned face turning blotchy and red as he walked over to her small figure. His eyes shone with glee at the sight of her pale body cowering away from him. He kicked, sending her skidding across the hardwood floor as he smiled. A look so terrifying that she froze, while quaking and crying as he approached her again. She didn't dare make a sound though-she knew he enjoyed hearing her pain-she refused to bestow that satisfaction. This act of silence made him furious as he continued his approach. His next actions were quick, too quick for her fragile body to fend off. Grabbing her by the neck, he punched and punched, holding her to the wall. He squeezed tighter and tighter until she started to see black dots. Gasping, she clawed at the hand that held her captive. Her hearing dimmed, she could barely hear the disgusting and horrible things that he called her. Things that made her hate him, but more accordingly, herself. She grasped onto the last string of sanity she had left. She slipped, her sanity snapped as she lost herself to the blackness that surrounded her vision. Seeing that she had collapsed, he let her go, dropping her limp body to the floor and giving one last kick before walking away.
She woke up to nothingness, silence. The lights in the house were off, she stared around her at the darkness that filled her with dread. He could hide there, jump out and continue where he left off. After sitting for a while, she clawed her way up the wall to stand. Limping, she made her way to his bathroom, and opened his cabinet. Inside sat a plethora of illegal medication, reaching inside, she grabbed a bottle with a complicated name that she couldn't pronounce and opened it. She then swallowed as many pills as she could from inside the bottle. First, she felt sick, falling to the floor in agony worse than she could have ever imagined. It felt as though her insides were being twisted and tied in knots. Next, came a soothing-almost numb feeling- she felt at peace with herself at last. She smiled up at the ceiling as she knew, she knew that she was free. She had managed to get away. She had saved herself from a life of pain.
