One's POV
"Mister Stanford, I am sorry but you can't assign me this case, h-he's a murderer... like- killed someone!"
He walked around the chair I was sitting on and placed his hands on my shoulders. "Well, he is an alleged murderer, and you wouldn't want to fail your first assignment working for our law firm."
I sighed, sinking back into my chair; I knew he was right; this is the only thing paying for anything at the moment. I needed this job more than anything else and this murder case was going to be the thing allowing me to keep it. I took a deep breath and sighed out, "give me the case."
Mr. Stanford sat back in his seat behind his studious desk, "that's what I thought." He straightened his posture and grinned as he handed me the case file. It read; Holt, Leyton - Age 25, as a first case I probably looked scared as I looked at the evidence of the victim in my hands.
"Poor Oni Winslow," I said to myself and closed my eyes in a moment of silence. She was so beautiful, only 16 as well... I wish I looked like her or was as pretty.
"Anyway-" Mr. Stanford said standing up from his chair; you will meet with your client tomorrow to hear his side of the case, you have to remember all you learned in school and not to fall for any of his tricks if he chooses to pull any."
I walked out of the office with the file in my hand, stiff and worried; I don't know how I am going to sleep tonight.
The taxi pulled up and I timidly climbed in. My anxiety picked up as I reached my apartment downtown. He is a fucking murderer! I can't sit in a room with him and pretend he is just like me. Though I am never going to figure out how I will pull it off until it is time to. I need to sleep.
The light shined on my face like heaven though I knew today was going to be hell. I brushed my teeth, put on my nice dress, put the case file in my bag, and walked out of the door, terrified of the day ahead of me.
10 minutes in a cab and I had arrived at the Titionburg Prison. Getting buzzed in I was asked to take a seat in a separate room and wait for my client and him only. The guards brought him in handcuffed and foot cuffed. His brown hair was tossed and he had a crazy look in his blue-green eyes. If I was crazy maybe he would be cute.
The guards left and it was him and I alone in the dark windowless room with a singular light, a light grey table, and 2 black chairs. I sat across from the dead looking man, in a way I felt bad he was locked up, even though he deserved the hell out of whatever he is getting for a punishment.
Suddenly he looked up and seemed to scan me; he looked away and said "cute." I was astounded by the comment and brushed it off, it doesn't matter, and it is just a trick. I continued my conversation with him for the next 3 hours occasionally getting a flirty remark from him which I completely ignored and moved on from. It kinda started like this:
"What's your name beautiful?"
"Don't call me that..."
"Name, darling?"
"One."
"One?" he laughed a bit, "what kind of name is that?"
"None of your business, we are here to talk about you and not me."
"Ok feisty fire away." He nonchalantly put his feet up in the table attempting to lean back in his chair.
I asked some questions, got some answers and added to his case file. Though most of it happened to be small talk and I didn't get too many good answers. His eyes always seemed to be trained on me which kind of creeped me out. I only have to go back 5 times before the trial then I am free from him.
