Chapter 5: Friends and Enemies

Chapter 5:

Nasuada took Arvy and I on a tour of Illirea and it was by far the most beautiful city i had ever

seen. Nasuada chucked and said," Wait until you see Ellesméra, its even better."

I thought about how she knew what I was thinking but considering i would whisper 'wow' or

'Amazing..." every other minute it wasn't that hard to interpret my emotions.

Soon we reached the citadel and Nasuada sadly said," We must part here, but we will meet for

dinner at 6:00 dont be late!" A dwarf led me to another building where other young riders awaited.

Even after an hour I had made a couple friends and Arvy met their dragons as well. Their names

were Rose, Tobias, and Georgio.

Rose had ironically a rose colored female dragon named Lya, Tobias had a beautiful male white

pearl dragon named Sergio and Georgio's linked partner was a deep forest green female dragon

named Felicia

We all stayed in the same barracks, which was awesome until a new rider entered. His named was

Gino and hes was a complete jerk, along with his snarky obsidian dragon Osiris.

He kept bragging about how he knew the ancient language and Osiris boasted he could breathe

fire already.

But when we asked where they were from, they mysteriously always stopped short, looked with

wide eyes, and quickly left.

Soon we met our temporary teachers who would give us a brief education on rudimentary runes

and hand to hand combat. I was nervous, considering i had only tried using a sword once before.

"Hello Volkfír im Elnir and I will be your temporary teacher along with Rose, Tobias, and Georgio

as well as Gino, so try to become friends for you will be training for a couple months and sleeping

in the same barracks except for Rose, for that would be.....awkward.

We started by sparring and I actually beat everyone and almost bested Elnir! "You have excellent

talent and exceed my expectations, have you sparred before? You use the same moves and a friend

of mine who passed away very young, unlikely for an elf," Elnir said with a sad smile.

"I swear I have only picked up a sword once and i nearly killed my dog so I dont know because im

an elf I can fight well or something." I said surely.

Elnir believed me and asked us to summon our dragons to review today's classes. He told us after

every day to review our lessons with our dragons to strengthen our connections through the

gedewy ignasia in our heads.

It had been about a month after Arvandr had hatched so he was growing quickly. He was already

taller than me and could catch his own food outside the city.

Every Thursday we would go out on a boat and we would learn to sail. Coming from Sharktooth

which was a nautical island, i excelled in this class. I won every race and challenge and Gino would

always use magic to try and catch up but most of the time he failed and the ship capsized, spun

around, exploded, or burst into flames.

Osiris was constantly challenging Arvy to flight challenges to prove he was he fastest and most

agile of the class. But no matter how sleek Osiris was and hard he flapped Arvy always bested him.

Osiris was stronger and bigger and he should be able to win but Arvy just was so quick. Every day

Elnir congratulated Arvy and me on an outstanding job.

Gino when we got back today after sailing walked up and punched me in the face, out of the blue.

I asked what the heck it was for but he slugged me again and tackled me. I had to defend myself so

I pushed him off and grabbed his arm and put him in a half nelson like Grandpa taught me.

Elnir walked in while i was on top of Gino and I quickly jumped up. Elnir stated in disbelief," Im

very disappointed Volkfír. What are you doing to Gino?" I replied by saying Gino slugged me twice

and tackled me Gino denied it. Elnir told me to kneel as well as Gino.

He touched two fingers to my temple and soon i felt a presence digging into my consciousness. i

immediately put up my iron mental walls but Elnir assured it was him and examined my memory

of the fight.

He soon withdrew from Gino and me and he sharply announced that Gino was lying and he

provoked me. Elnir looked at Gino in disbelief and and told him to follow him and Osiris as well.

"I hope you have a very strong reason to repeatedly hit Volkfír as well as Osiris to insult Arvandr,

for Nasuada will not want to hear lies."
