The Rise

A New Beginning

I saw people building around putting up wall panels.  Months past since the war ended.  The new Alexandria was being born.

I looked over to Carl, seeing him helping Rick with the walls.  I crossed my arms smiling a bit.

I looked over seeing Glenn and Maggie sitting on a porch of a brick house.  Hershel sat in front of the couple.  I smiled even more and made my way to Carl and Rick and started helping with the panels.  I climbed the ladder to help put up the top panel.  After looking down, I saw Dwight helping by pulling on some ropes. 

"Jessica!"  Someone yelled for me.  I turned around and looked over and saw Simon walking over, "you're wanted, over near the crops."

Walking over to the crops, I smiled waving to quite a few people.  I smile seeing Jerry, seeing him eat his usual pastry.  I chuckled a bit seeing his wave, his beard covered in confectioner sugar.  I waved back and made my way to the crops. 

A man was crouched over on his knees, pulling weeds and plucking ripened foods.  "What'd you need old man?" I smile walking over down.  He stood up and looked down to me, wiping his hands from the dirt, "who you calling old man?" He laughed a bit, "you," I smile crossing my arms.

"Why couldn't this happen to begin with?  All of us just living as a happy, dysfunctional family?" I ask smiling up to the man in front of me, "because, I didn't think it'd work, but it does," he smiles down to me, "you never know until you try.  Plus, you and Rick work good together." I smile up to him.

He put his arm around me, the two of us walking to see the rest of the camp, "dad," I say softly, "yeah?"  He says confused looking down to me, "how long will this last before more shit happens?" I ask looking at the camp.  I saw Glenn smiling with Maggie as they laughed playing with little Hershel, Carl smiling with Rick finishing the expansion on the wall, "a long time sweetie," he says softly and held me close.  I smile more laying my head against him and closed my eyes.
