" Andrews, Evelyn?", Shouted the teacher, attempting and failing to be heard over the rowdy students. "Guys! I need you to listen so I can call attendance please!" The students started to quiet down as each one found their seats on the bus. It was 8 am and the kids were preparing to go on a school trip. Hannah sighed, staring at the scenery outside her window. Goodbye dry plants, goodbye sandy Earth, goodbye unbearable hea-
"Scott, Hannah?" A voice interrupted her thoughts
"Here", she snapped, annoyed at the teacher for disturbing her.
The teacher doesn't notice. Hannah suddenly feels a sharp pain in her side. Evelyn, who was sitting next to her, smiles devilishly "This gonna be so friggin awesome!"
"I can't wait!" Hannah says back to her.
The girls were going on a trip to Los Angeles, California with their high school to visit a couple of the historical museums. The hotel they were staying at was a six-hour drive from their school in Phoenix, Arizona. The teachers in charge of the trip allowed the students to choose their roommates. Hannah and Evelyn choose each other since they were best friends. The girls had been neighbors for their entire lives and friends since they were three years old. They had been inseparable ever since.
"Look what I have," Evelyn whispered, facing Hannah, using her hair to cover her bag.
Hannah moved her own purple curls to see the contents of the bag.
"Woah," she said," that's a lot of food"
Evelyn smiled proudly, " I packed extra to last us a long time, I also brought a whole lotta money to go shopping at L.A's finest."
Hannah giggled, "I'm more interested in meeting L.A's finest," she said, wiggling her eyebrows.
The two burst into a fit of uncontrollable giggles.
" What's so funny ladies?" A smooth, deep voice says from behind them.
The girls looked up to see Zane, a senior at their school behind them. Hannah always thought he was cute. He was tall, with warm tan skin and had the top of his hair up in small short dreadlocks.
Evelyn rolled her eyes, "The fact that your hairline is running away from you."
"Ouch," Zane said, pretending he was shot in the chest.
"Good one," Hannah told Evelyn, fist-bumping her.
Another voice comes from behind them, this time next to Zane.
"You girls are too funny," He said. It was Evelyn's older brother Leo.
He smiled at them, raking his hands through his golden hair. Although the two were siblings, they looked so different. Leo had an even beige complexion and blonde hair. Evelyn, on the other hand, had black hair, and pale skin with faint freckles across her face. But the siblings looked similar through their eyes and their smiles.
Evelyn grinned back at her brother, "We learned from the best." she praised
The girls turned back to face the front. Hannah opened her phone and looked for the playlist the two made before for the trip and handed Evelyn an earbud. She stared at the traffic they were passing once again.
