I am Elizabeth Baker and I am deaf. I have been since I was two. I have a hard time in school and making friends, until now.

I was on the bus to school when this boy sat next to me. I had no idea who he was but he seemed nice, he had no idea I was deaf. I signed to him and he caught on he didn't understand much but he understands that.

A couple of months later he sat next to me again and signed to me, I almost cried. He had been learning all this time just so he could talk to me and we really caught on! We loved the same books and he is really funny! He sat on the bus with me every day and touters me after school, he was the smartest kid at school (at least that's what I told my mom). One day he finally asked me out on a date and I was thrilled! We went to a silent movie and out to dinner, it was perfect! We had so much fun, we never wanted it to end!

The next day we went to the park where we had a picnic lunch. It was delicious, I never knew he could cook!

Three days later I went to the doctor for a pain in my leg that had a big lump on it, we found out it was cancerous tumor that had to be removed.

Several days later everything seemed fine until I passed out in gym class and had to be rushed to the hospital it turns out that the cancer had spread throughout my leg and was getting worse. I was scared I texted my now boyfriend and told him everything and he rushed over right away. He tried to hug me but the doctor said no, apparently this is caused from the brain cancer I got when I was two. I kissed him gently on the lips and sighed that “I love him” and that “I'll be fine”.

After a month I was able to go home, confined to a wheelchair, but I was making progress and was going through chemo, I had lost all my hair and had to be rushed to the ER twice.

Eight years later I was through with chemo and as as a surprise he proposed to me! I said yes and now we live happily married with two twin daughters, Claire and Chloe. We taught them sign language so we could talk, and whenever we watch movies we always have on subtitles. They are such sweet girls and I will love them til the day I die.
