Darkness

The light hath gone,
There goes the sun,
The lamplights and the streetlights,
And the little flashlights.

And all is darkness.

The darkness is an old friend of mine,
It is everything and nothing,
It is the foundation of the sunshine,
Of the thoughts and the rhymes,
That keep you awake,
Far into the night,
The foundations of the whispering,
Awake until it becomes light.

It finds you in the darkest time,
When you are feeling down,
It gives you a great big hug,
And leaves you without a frown.

It finds you in the lightest too,
Just think of all it can do,
Bring thoughts to the blandest day,
And come what may,
It's always there,
Watching you,
Only dispelled by light,
When sunshine dispels the gloom.

It captures you,
It eats you up,
It gives you a hug.
An eternal hug,
A hug in the darkness until the day comes
Where you ebb away.

Though, come what may,
It will always stay,
Right there to share in your darkness.
