Waking up on a Monday is the worst. I hate Mondays. I groan as I hold my head in my hands in pain. I was starting to have a headache and I don't know what caused it. I slept over at Jo's house so we could just go to school the next day and I don't have to wait for her to pick me up at my house. As I get up, she wakes up and smiles at me. "Good morning, Alex." I chuckled. "Good morning Jo." I have been friends with Jo since we were little. Ever since that Danny incident, we stayed very close and Lacey drifted apart from us. It's hard to see her friends with the popular sluts at school but we got over it.
"Girls! Breakfast is ready!" Jo's mother yells. I quickly get changed into my outfit I chose for school today as I rush downstairs to eat. As I sit down, Mrs. Masterson serves me food and Jo's dad turned on the small tv that was on the counter. As I started eating some of my food, I started choking because the tv said that Danny was back in town. I quickly got up to get a drink of water as I continue to hear the tv. "Desai's return to Green Grove High has been met with controversy. He was released yesterday from the juvenile detention facility that has held him for the past five years since he strangled his aunt, author Tara Desai, while she babysat for him and three friends."
I quietly groaned to myself as I drank my water. I immediately looked over at Jo as we both stare at each other in shock. "Can we turn that off please?" Jo said as she slightly raised her voice. I couldn't agree more with her question. "Mom, this is my reality. I might as well get used to it." I stayed quiet as I heard their conversation. Her mother sighed, "I just think you'll feel less tense if you try not to focus on it. That goes to you as well, Alex." I groaned as I looked over at Jo.
"I'll feel less tense once I see that lunatic freak and tell him I hate his guts." I quietly chuckled at her statement. I didn't blame her. Danny just thinks he can go back to this town and act like we're still best friends. I was never going to forgive him, never in hell. That would be the last thing I would do in my life.
"Jo, your dad and I have been talking and well, uh, we think you should start seeing Dr. Shin again." Jo scoffed at her suggestion. My eyes went wide as I heard her mother tell her that. I gotta say, that guy was a creep. I didn't have sessions like Jo did but I remember being there one day because she felt uncomfortable. "Hell no. That guy smells like cat food." I laughed at her comment. Her mother narrowed her eyes at me as I decided to shut up.
"Which is why we can afford him." Her father adds in. I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't stand here hearing that Jo had to go see Dr. Shin again. "Mrs. Masterson, if I please may add, she is perfectly fine. You guys are overreacting and she doesn't need to go back to see him. She has clearly moved on from this." I said defending Jo. "Thank you!" Jo said throwing her hands in the air in relief. "But for Lacey Porter, moving on hasn't been easy." We both groan once again as I finished my plate and decided to wash my dish.
We finished breakfast as we saw the tv once again but this time Lacey appears on the screen. Jo and I stay in the kitchen listening to what she had to say about Danny coming back. "And if it were my choice, I wouldn't let that socio anywhere near my school." I scoffed as I folded my arms and went upstairs to grab my backpack. Jo stayed back in the kitchen for a while talking to her mother about Lacey. I was honestly done and tired with Lacey's bullshit. She acts like she runs the school and can do whatever she wants just because she hangs out with freaking Regina George and her little whore who is always next to her.
"Ready to go?" Jo asked as she came in her room and grabbed her backpack. "Yeah. Let's go to hell." I sigh as we get in her dad's truck. I was honestly about to just walk to school. I wasn't in the mood for any questions her dad was going to ask us but Jo wouldn't want to have an argument about my transportation and safety to getting to school.
I was in the back as Jo was in the passengers seat with her dad. She was staring outside the window which made me follow her actions. I sighed as I saw the school and looked at all the happy students. How could students be happy in school? What's so fun about school? It's a living hell and it's going to be worse today since Danny decided to come back to this stupid town. As Mr. Masterson parked the car, I immediately unbuckled my seatbelt and rushed out the door. I know Jo was going to have a short chat with her dad before she got out and I didn't want to be there for that.
