The Beginning

It began to rain loudly. Thunder clapping and lightning snapping. It was quite a sight. Though the Violet family wouldn’t usually be bothered by this, everyone seemed a little off edge.
“What’s wrong mommy?” Luminaria said, pulling on her mother’s sleeve.
“It’s nothing dear.” Mrs. Violet replied, frowning slightly.
“If it’s nothing, then why is everyone acting sad?” Gloomia, Luminaria’s twin sister, said. Though the twins are 3, they knew when something was wrong. They are taught quite a lot everyday.
“I’m having another set of twins...”
“Yay! Wait, why is that a bad thing?” Luminaria pondered.
“Yeah, why is that a bad thing?” Gloomia mused.
“I might not make it.” The mother simply answered.
“What do you mean by not make it?” The girls asked at the same time.
“I am weak. Very weak from my reaccuring sicknesses.” Mrs. Violet said, frowning. Although Mrs. Violet was happy often, she was dying slowly.
She had lied to her daughters by saying she had a sickness, but really, it was cancer. Not only that, but she was also weak from being pregnant with another set of twins. A boy and a girl.
The girls tilted their heads, looked at each other, nodded at the same time and walked over to their mother to embrace her.
“Zoey dear, I’m sure you’ll be fine.” Mr. Violet said, tears welling up in his eyes. The girls nodded to their mother in unison and agreement to the father’s untrue statement.
“Mike, honey...I…”
“Just fine.” Mr. Violet cut her off quickly.
Zoey smiled tearfully.
“Yeah...Just fine.” She repeated, hugging her daughters carefully.
They knew to hug her gently, but Mike couldn’t help but to hold her a tiny bit tighter this time.

~After the long embrace~

The Violet family sat at the dining table, quietly snickering. Mrs. Violet looked at her strange family.
“What’s so funny?” She tilted her head in wonder, chuckling slightly.
“Happy birthday to youuu!” The girls and the father began, smiling widely at Mrs. Violet. They sang her a happy birthday, and Mike brought out the secret beautiful cake. It was chocolate and strawberry--Zoey’s favorite flavors.
“Awww, just for me?” She questioned, giggling and smiling.
Then something hit Mike; This is the first time in months he has seen her this happy. Was it the fact she was going to give life before dying the real reason why she was happy? Or is she faking this happiness? There was no real way to tell. Hoping for the best was his only choice then and there.
“Honey, we love you. Of course we’d get this for you.” He chuckled, and stood up.
“The girls and I have bought slash brought gifts for you.”
He walked off into the hallway with the twins, soon returning with the birthday presents.
Luminaria had a glass diamond. Once it’s held up to the sun, the room would have a beautiful, large rainbow. Gloomia had a cresent shaped stone. Once put under water, it changes colors like a light show. Mike had a necklace with a connecter. Once put near each other, it was able to connect. The necklaces shape(s) were a ruby and an ameythst, shaped weirdly.
“Oh my goodness,” she gasped in awe. “They’re so pretty!”
Mike handed her a large teddy bear. “Awww,” she smiled, hugging the teddy bear. “Just like hugging you.” He blushed slightly.
“Uh...Yeah.”
She giggled. “After all these years, you STILL blush.”
“Not like I can help it.” He stuck his tongue out at her. She did the same, chuckling.
“No, but you know what that means?”
“Hm?”
“Our children might be blushy in the future.”
“Uh, no. It doesn’t mean that.”
“Why are you so mean?” She frowned, yet was chuckling under her breath.  He shrugged in response. Luminaria and Gloomia were giggling and playing with dolls.
“I love that they get along.”  Zoey smiled.
“I do as well.” Mike mumbled.
“You don’t have to be so formal, ya know.”
He shrugged and smiled.

~Several months later~

Mike sobbed silently. Though Luminaria and Gloomia do not understand why he was crying, they knew he was beyond sad. They hugged him.
“I’m sorry girls…”
“You didn’t do this…” Luminaria mumbled.
He had lied to the girls, saying their mother ran away. In reality, she was dead. She gave birth successfully, but died from liver and kidney cancer. Mike and Zoey found out about the cancer way too late.

~Three years later…~

Luminaria jumped up and down. “Hahahaha!”
Gloomia sighed. “Why are you laughing? I’m winning!”
Luminaria stuck her tongue out at her.
“Yeah yeah, whateverrrr.”
“Girls...You aren’t fighting, are you?” Mike asked, standing in the doorway. The girls were playing video games, giggling and yelling.
“Six year olds are crazy…” He mumbled, chuckling. He walked away, tending to the three year olds.
“Raven, don’t eat that!”
She looked at him. “Wut?”
“Don’t “wut” me. That’s toxic.” He grabbed the purple crayon out of her hands.
Raven pointed to her twin brother, Zagi.
“How come you never yell at him?”
“Because he barely talks, or does anything.”
Zagi tilted his head at his sister and father, giggled eerily, and went back to playing with blocks.
“Uh...Okay then…”
“Wut.” Raven said.
“Oh my goodness.”

A few months later, Luminaria and Gloomia were sitting in 1st grade, next to each other.

“Girls,” Ms. Veel said, glaring at the twins.
“Yes?” The twins said in unison.
“Will you two be able to work together? Because well...No one really wants to work with weirdos.”
Gloomia glared at Ms. Veel. She was as vicious as an eel, which is probably why it was in her name. Luminaria didn’t understand.
“I do!” A boy from across the room shouted. He bounced up and down.
“Ugh, fine. Anyone else?”
Several students raised their hands.
“Rita and Vivith, you four are a group…” Ms. Veel mumbled.
Rita and Vivith smiled and ran over to Luminaria and Gloomia. The girls giggled.
“Yay!”
THe teacher rolls her eyes.
“Alright everyone, make groups of four and get started!” She said, cheerfully. As the class worked on the group art project, (they had to draw what they thought a fraction was, and solve it to the best of their ability)

~Time skip to the twins’ high school years. They are freshmen, sitting in class, miraculously with Rita and Vivith. Luminaria and Gloomia are now 16~

“Class, when you are finished with the test, you may do whatever you please, just do not talk. You may listen to music during and after the test.”
Rita looked over at him and smiled, muttering under her breath, “Thanks, Satan.”
Luminaria giggled.
“Satan has doomed us all!” Ally Silversmith, the twins, Rita, and Vivith’s friend, blurted out, the teacher looking at her, giggling.
“Oh please, I am NOT Satan.”
“Oh sure you aren’t,” Vivith giggles, joining in.
“Get to work,” He shakes his head, chuckling.
“You know you secretly are…or rather...similar to him...” Ally said, quietly.
The twins raised an eyebrow, curious as to why Ally tried to be discreet about joking. If she even was at this point...
