"A long time ago, in a land of great beasts of the earth, sea, and sky, lived an ancient and magical force. It is believed this force was the source of all life, or perhaps all magic, in the world. Many believe this force had existed for as long as the very world itself. When the First Wyverians came into existence, they discovered this force and were granted unfathomable power. They discovered the art which would later become known as Witchcraft and Wizardry. Some Wyverians used it to great effect, elevating their society to great heights. Others used this magic for great evil, destroying other Wyverians and obliterating entire populations of monsters.
This destructive use of magic upset the ancient force, so it created a powerful beast designed to destroy all Wyverians. This beast was said to be the ultimate weapon against magic, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Wyverins. The Wyverians had something the force and the beast did not have, nor understand. The Wyverians had their incredible ingenuity. This, combined with the power that magic had gained, allowed the Wyverians to fight back against the beast, driving back into the darkness.
After this, the Wyverians turned against one another, and the Wyverians who were the cause of the dark beast were cast out and removed from the annals of history. Those who were left began to rebuild their lives, and would eventually become the Wyverians that we know today. It was these events which planted the seeds which would grow into the beliefs that Wyverians still hold to this day, the belief that nature is sacred and should be treated with equality, in fear that not doing so could bring back the creature.
As for the Wyverians who brought about the beast, it is unknown what became of them. Some say they entered the abyss and sought out the monster which they summoned, others say they were wiped out due to them not having the numbers to keep themselves alive, becoming the prey of the creatures they nearly hunted to extinction. Regardless of what their true fate may have been, they have not been seen since, and even Wyverians have mostly forgotten the existence of their dark relatives, as it is considered taboo to even acknowledge their existence among Wyverian society.
Lastly, the dark beast which nearly wiped out Wyverian society: Its fate too is unknown, though it seems highly likely that it still lives to this very day. The Wyverians only managed to drive back the monster, and there are scattered reports of sightings and strange occurrences which could be connected to this creature. Its strange appearances have led the monster to be the focus of many legends and fairytales, though the appearance, behavior, and stories vary greatly, leaving many to not know the true origin of this great beast."
The redheaded woman's eyes moved along the page for a few moments, no longer reading aloud. After she was done, she closed the old, dusty book and set it on the old table in front of her. She looked up at the three men sitting before her, the light glowing on the tip of her wand illuminating everyone's faces. The group was sitting in an abandoned library, a large, dank bookshelf on either side of them lined to the ceiling with leather-bound books and scrolls.
"So, you think this dark beast, the ones who nearly destroyed the Wyverians, is the source of these strange anomalies?" Asked Carter, his smooth, brown hair brushed back and out of his face. The woman slowly nodded her head, her eyes looking somewhat vacant and off in the distance, her mind deep in thought.
"You okay, Zoey?" Aiden asked his twin sister, moving himself directly in front of her vision. She blinked quickly, shaking her head a bit to bring herself back to reality. She nodded, and smiled at her brother. "Yeah, I'm fine. I was just thinking..."
Luke brushed his shaggy blond hair out of his face and stood up from his creaking chair, pacing back and fourth. "I've heard one of those stories before," he said, finishing what he believed to be Zoey's thought. Zoey nodded at him, confirming Luke's thought. Luke sat back down at his seat, and everybody turned to look at their team leader. "I can't remember all of the details, but I remember hearing a story about a powerful Elder Dragon which was incredibly angry with humanity. It didn't believe it could defeat humanity alone, so it gave birth to three other Elder Dragons: Chameleos, Vaal Hazak, and Fatalis. Eventually, humanity managed to defeat this Elder Dragons, and harnessed their power to create three magical artifacts."
Zoey popped in to finish the story, everyone's eyes shifting towards her. "These artifacts were the Cloak of Invisibility, the Resurrection Stone, and the Elder Wand respectively. Because these artifacts came from Elder Dragons, they were called The Dragons Hallows. Humanity used these artifacts against the Elder Dragon, and managed to defeat it."
Carter made a quizzical noise, and said, "We're getting ahead of ourselves. We don't even know if this evil Elder Dragon even exists, and if it does, is causing the anomalies."
Aiden nodded. "Yeah, he's right. What we need to do is figure out what's causing these anomalies. That said, if the anomalies are being caused by this Elder Dragon, then we have the information we need to stop them, and a potential mission. Right?"
Luke nodded confidently at Aiden, and then pushed himself to his feet. "So, we have a plan, then. We need to go out into the field and find the source of these anomalies. If we're right, and it is this Dark Elder Dragon that we need to deal with, then we go after the Dragon's Hallows. Sound good?"
Aiden, Zoey, and Carter all nodded at the same time. "Okay," Aiden replied, "let's get moving. The sooner we get out there, the better. We need to make sure the people stay safe."
Luke nodded, and the rest of the group got to their feet. "Okay, people. Let's move. We have monsters to hunt, research to get done, and a world to save."
