(Was debating making this into my main book since I've come back to wattpad for a bit)
-Laurence-

The loud creaking of the opening windows and doors awoke me from my slumber, the heavy lids of my eyes opened slightly as the morning sun crept into the old dusty tower. Positioning my arm as a blockade from the burning light, my eyelids crept open and exposed me to the bright early morning sun. The shutters on the cracked window had blown open in the strong winds, a large gathering of dust, leaves and debris building up on the window ledge and flooding the rotten wood across the floors.

"Ugh..." my raspy voice sounded, a grumble to closely follow. My blistered hands rubbed the fatigue from my eyes, scrubbing across the rough skin surrounding my face. Once my eyes could fully open I used the surface of my right hand to push my body into a sitting position, slowly and steady as the muscles in my back and shoulders came to life.

"Why good morning young man." An elder, deeper voice erupted in my head. My ears twitched in response as I instinctively turned my head. In front of me stood the eldest guard of the small kingdom, Dante. "Perhaps I should request one of the maids to fix your of course.. perfect looks"

The sarcasm dripped from the aged man's chapped lips, causing a few chuckles to arise. The man's navy blue strands bounced along with his words, The highlights of titanium within the forest of blue hair reflected off of the sunlight as he spoke.

"What's today's tasks?" I asked groggily, running my hands through my overgrown oak-like hair. The stubborn tangles caught on my fingers as I waited for a response. Staring up at the taller man I quietly asked again. "Sir... wh-"

"Hush, boy" Dante forced in a violent whisper, taking large advantage of the newly formed gap in age. The man took a step toward the cracked window that sat across from my bed, his wrinkled eyes scanning across the empty early morning streets. The shadows and silhouettes of the surrounding buildings blocking the sun usefully from his squinted eyes. "What's going on down there...?"

A large groggy yawn interrupted the eerie silence, the erupting sound filling the small dusty room. As usual, a couple of pain-filled hacks and coughs followed the noises, Garroth's usual and painful breaths filling my ears.

It was a sad sign to hear, despite months of medicines and herbs, his throat seemed to never get better. The man had been this way ever since the fires a few years back when he jumped in the flames to save his past wife who has since then disappeared.

"You're getting rusty, Gar!" Dante cackled slightly as his voice echoed around the broken walls, walking away from the mouldy window and taking a few cautious steps back he looked concerned. As sudden puzzled look enhanced the creases on his rough skin, He stands and thinks for a while "Maybe we'll have to get you those herbs from the O'Khasis market again, Dude, that isn't getting any better."

"Ah, don't bother. It'll fade off eventually." He croaks, his original smooth and silky voice seeming so far lost. The tall guard emerged from his room, his dull lifeless eyes staring at the tray of warm breakfast the lord had made. A large grin creeped on to Garroth's face as he looked at the tray of food. "Croissants.. nice."

My footsteps quickened as I walked across the cracked wooden floorboards to reach for the first pastry. My hand gripped on to the food, but suddenly flinched backward into its original position at the scorching, hell like, heat.

"Ow!" I screeched, flailing my hand in the air in rough movements as the pain surrounded my calloused palm. Squinting my eyes I held my hand against my clothed chest, panting softly "darn, that's roasting!"

Garroth let out a weak laugh, watching with his sapphire eyes as I hopped up and down to ease the pain. I flapped my burning hand in a panicked matter whilst blurting out yells and profanities at the cobblestone wall.

"I must say." Dante blurted in an ocean of laughs, his wrinkled face creasing along the angles of his smile "this.. is.. so.. so hilarious!"

"Shut up.." I mumbled, The burning dying down off of my now red hand. I picked up a cooler croissant and began devouring it in a hungry manner, watching as the two others copied my actions.

"Mm mmm mm!" Garroth mumbled, brushing the pastry pieces off of his shirt. He picked up the empty plate and moved it to the window ledge, admiring himself in the mirror nearby "I must say, a good breakfast-"

"Makes a good day" a voice from behind us spoke. Instinctively, the three of us turned around, six sets of eyes settling on the lord of the village, Aphmau "enjoyed the croissants I see Garroth?"

Garroth smiled a little and rubbed the back of his neck, his eyes glued to the floor. The woman approached and grabbed the plate and a few other dishes lying around, her lilac dress dragging behind.

"Garroth I know where your eyes are." Dante's voice thundered,  interrupting the silence suddenly. Garroth snapped his head to the side as the lapis haired man  spoke with suspicious tone.

My face creased into a small grin as the blonde guard cleared his throat uncomfortably. He stood still for a few moments and began walking over to the hooks and gathering his long blue (Dante's red, Laurance is green and Garroth is blue correct?) satin cape, The man slowly vanishing into his small section of room.

"Well I'm sure that's a bit tidier." Aphmau smiled, her face lighting up as she stared up at Dante and i. Her long silky hair drooped down her back and waved along with the draft, some long strands placed in front of her face. "Dante, The new students are ready for training."

"Ah yes." He explained, snapping out of a trance. He copied garroth's previous movements and unhooked his damaged red cape, reaching for the door handle of his dorm-

"APHMAU!"
