Our story begins...later than most. Most kids leave on their pokemon journey when they're 10 years old but not all of us have that luxury. My name is Drew and I'm 18 years old home grown in the Hoen Region. My parents never let me leave for my pokem...
"Are you really going to do something so childish?"
"Well I could've done this when I was a child but someone didn't want me to leave."
"Please, we just wanted to keep you safe!"
"You wanted to keep me safe my ass. You just want me to be just like you guys, living a boring life all by yourselves. I'm old enough to care of myself so why are you still worried, huh? You just want me to stick around so I can take over the family business because my brother wouldn't. You've always cared about that business more than me."
"That's not true! Carl, tell your son that's not true!"
"Of course it's true Karen, it's a stable car repair job and he'll have a steady life. Now stop with these childish dreams and buy back all of your stuff you sold."
"No, I told you when I turned 18 I was out of here. I sold all my things so I wouldn't have to worry about money so much while I was out. I'm leaving tomorrow morning and that's final!" I shouted before slamming the door shut as I stomped away from my house fuming mad.
"I can't believe my parents, they just don't get how amazing pokemon can be," I muttered kicking rocks as I sauntered down the street.
After almost a mile walk I was well out of my small town and nearing a small stream that ran perpendicular to the road. I hopped off the road and started walking down this narrow stream. I continued my trek for another couple miles until I came to the end of the river which lead to a small pond. The pond was clean and clear you could see the rocks on the bottom of pond, bushes and foliage lined the edge of the pond, branches hung over parts of pond to create a bit of shade. "You here Squirts?" I called out to the pond.
One of the bushes rustled on the other side of the pond then the sound of a Pokémon saying "Squirtle Squirtle," rung through.
"There you are buddy!" I called with a wide smile on my face.
A Squirtle popped his dark blue head of the bush so far his green shell was showing. He looked concerned until he made eye contact with, a wide smile showed on his face when he recognized me. He quickly jumped in the water and swam to me like a torpedo. When he got closer he leaped through the air and landed in my arms. "Squirtle!" He cheered happily.
"Aw come on buddy now I'm all wet," I laughed looking at how drenched I was now. I held him tightly despite this.
This is Squirts, he's honestly the best friend I have. I found this pond a few years ago when I was trying to get away from my family. I thought it was so beautiful I decided to explore around, not like I had anything better to do anyway. After a while I discovered this little guy hiding in one of the bushes, he wasn't too friendly at first and blasted me with a Water Gun so hard I flew into the pond. I was pretty mad at first but quickly felt guilty when I saw the scared look on his face. I noticed that he was a different color than any Squirtle I had ever seen, I figured he was a shiny Pokémon and he must have run into a poacher or two to be this scared of me. I ran away and bought some Pokémon food to apologize. After a few visits he warmed up to me and we'd been friends ever since.
We spent the rest of the day together and I told him about how I was leaving on my journey tomorrow and that I couldn't see him anymore. He looked like he understood but it not always that easy to tell when you're talking with someone who can't verbally respond. "I'm sorry Squirts but this is the last time we're gonna see each other for a long time." I apologized, I knew he understood me this time when I saw the sad look on his face.
"But hey I brought you lots of food!" I exclaimed bringing out a big bag of Pokémon food, and dumping some on the ground for him "it's your favorite!"
Squirts didn't seem interested in the food, instead he gave me a hug and sauntered back into the pond where he slowly swam away disappearing into the bushes.
I knew the news would be hard on him but I didn't know he'd be this disappointed, I know he's happy for me but he doesn't want to lose a friend. I want to stay with him but if I live in this town for even an extra day I know I'd go crazy. I left the bag of food for him and began my walk back home. I thought yo myself that this was the last time I'd see my best friend for a long time.
