"Lana, would you let me borrow your charger?" he asks, offering a warm smile.
"His phone's dead..." Raegan adds on, receiving a glare from her roommate.
"And that is supposed to be any my concern?"
The whole table fell silent at Lana's response, and the emptiness of the café certainly did not help. Everyone felt the tension between them, even Mrs Sheen who took a pause to watch her students' icy glaring contest.
"Someone's being- well, you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, I see?" she says, getting Lana's attention.
"You can just say the word." Lana responds, rolling her eyes once more before Raegan and the girls gave an awkward smile in hopes that the conversation would end.
"Is she always like that?" she continues asking the twins who sat right beside her.
"Its just lack of sleep, Ma'am. Right, Lana?" Jake speaks up, giving a nod to Lana who continued to play deaf.
"I'm sorry I'm being a bitch this early, Ma'am. There's no issue." Lana says, picking up her stuff before heading up to the meeting room.
Half an hour later, the team was briefed by their new bosses on their work schedule and what had to be done during their attachment for the next two weeks. The team was also split in two marketing teams to speed up the process and help their employees in different aspects. Other than that, they were assigned to be in pairs and work on an idea to be presented by the end of the day to hopefully work on and launch by the coming month.
"Well if there are no objections, I'll assign your pairs." Mrs Sheen announces, glancing around the room.
"First pair, Jake and Lana."
Jake's POV
"Look, I'm really sorry. I know I was offensive, I should have known better. I won't do it again, I pr- "
"Save it, Jake." She sighs, looking up from her laptop. "Its okay."
Okay? That's all I got for my little sorry speech.
Three hours later, here we are.
Lana and I decided to reserve a table in the café itself, just below the office to observe everything that's going on in order to weigh the pros and cons and to determine the needs of their current service. Surprisingly, little miss Sassy over here didn't go off on me once more when we got paired up.
One thing that surprised me was how quick she was able to analyse information and situations. She definitely did her best when it came to work, really threw me off the edge. Pair work wasn't bad after all because we did complete everything within an hour. We didn't talk unless we needed to and I couldn't blame her, I was offensive last night.
"Hey, can I take a seat?" Speaking of which, here she is holding two cups of iced latte.
Now that she's sat her in front of me, once more, I kept mum. I tend to say the most stupid things, and I'm not risking another one of that.
"So... What's the coffee for?" I curiously asked, grabbing the cup I sipped from her hand, watching her freeze for a little while.
"I just wanted to apologise for being a bitch over breakfast today." She gave a little shy smile before picking up her cup to take a sip from it.
"I was offended, yes." She continues, "but you weren't being rude this morning so you didn't deserve that treatment. So..."
Reaching over, she placed a brand new charger on top of my laptop with a little white case also labelled with a tag under LV.
"I'll return this to you after I'm done."
"You don't have to, I dropped by the nearest store earlier and got you a new one. That's just my case but you can have it."
"Lana..."
"Take it as a peace offering?"
"You're not at fault here, I am." I pushed the charger over to her side this time, refusing to take it.
I could afford a charger of my own, alright.
"I got that for you, you have to keep it."
"I can't accept such gifts, Lana. Besides, you also bought these drinks!"
"Well, how about we start over?" again, she raises her brow like she did over breakfast and reached out her hand.
"I'm Lana," she shakes my hand.
"Jake."
I guess I won't have to call her miss sassy anymore.
