“Luke doesn’t deserve you!” said Sierra.
“Yeah, you’re right,’’ said April trying her best to hold back her tears.
“Well I have to go bye,” said Sierra as she picked up her pink backpack with diamonds on it in different spots, which were fake, but Sierra liked to act as if they were real.
“Wait who’s going to pick you up?”
“Oh Ryan,” said Sierra as she fixed her hair.
“Oh you’re seeing him again?”
“Yeah, also I don’t want to be around you when you look like a mess.”
“Oh okay, I understand.”
Even though I was there for you when you were upset that your boyfriend cheated on you, April thought angrily.
“Oh there he is!”
“Bye.”
Sierra ran off without saying bye, which was perfectly normal for Sierra to do. Sierra was the type of person that cared about herself, but not others. April didn’t mind she knew Sierra wasn’t the best at making friends, so when April was in the seventh grade April promised Sierra she would stay by Sierra’s side no matter what Sierra did to her. My dad is late again, which doesn’t surprise me, he never picks me up from school on time, thought April as she looked through her backpack trying to find her phone.
April was in high school and was in her junior year. She was active in many clubs and had straight A’s, she was very popular with everyone. Many people thought they knew her, but not even Sierra knows about her depression and her family issues. Not even her now new ex boyfriend knew that her dad was a cheating drunk and her mother was a cheating wife. Her family was great at putting on fake smiles. They always acted as if they were a perfect family. April also was the only child, so her parents angry always landed on her. In returned gave her depression, which she self-diagnosed. Her mother had laughed at her when she said she felt depressed and wanted to see a therapist.
“Finally I found my phone,” said April.
April turned on her phone and went to her contacts, which were only Sierra, mom, dad, and Matt, Matt was her ex boyfriend. Her and Matt had been dating for three years and everything was fine until he started football. Matt started to be more interested in “bad girls” who would throw themselves at guys. Matt dumped April because she didn’t want to give up her innocence.
I’m deleting him from my contacts, I don’t want him as a friend, he probably never even liked me. What’s even worse, his friend told me Matt wanted to break up with me. I’m so mad just thinking about it.
April went to her dad’s number and texted him, since he was already thirty minutes late and mostly everyone from school was gone. She didn’t want to be the last one or get her parents in trouble for being late at picking her up on time, for the seventh time in a row, which would make her day even worse.
“Dad where r u?”
No reply.
“R u drunk?”
No reply again.
“Fine I’m walking home!”
April threw her phone back into her backpack and started walking home. April was used to walking home, but today’s weather was not on her side. The clouds were grey and ready to cry and the wind was cold and whistling. The clouds finally gave up holding back their tears, and so did April. This rain is so cold, but when is rain not cold.
