The beginning of a killing game

    When I had woken up this morning I was feeling nervous about going to Hope’s Peak Academy as the ‘Ultimate Gamer’.  Now that I’m standing at the front gate,seeing the school, I feel even more anxious.  Being a gamer isn’t very special,I mean if it was I would have gotten into some college sooner.  I guess I should introduce myself? Shigēmu Megami is my name, I have spent all my life as a gamer, I don’t have friends in real life, but I have plenty on the internet.  I spend all day on games, after homework.  Hope’s  Peak  Academy only accepts the best students, I have no idea why I got into it.  I’m not going to socialize much,I’ll probably just stay in my room playing games.

                    They said we could bring a pet that we love, so I brought my cat named Kusuka.  She’s a completely white cat who loves to be rubbed on her tummy.  I have her in my pet carrier, prepared to step into the school.  I take a step onto the school ground, then I run up to the front door and open it.  Once I walk in there is only one other student there, we’re supposed to go to  the gym maybe they’re lost? I come up to them and wave.  He is a boy,only a bit taller than me, he has black hair and blue eyes, he seems pretty pale. He waves back. “Hey, do you know where the gym is?”I ask him.

“Yeah. I’ve been waiting for the rest of the group. You’re the last one! I can take you there.”He says, then grabs my hand and leads me down the corridor, into the gym.

This place doesn't seem very much like a school. There were iron plates on the walls and the stairwell seemed to be barred off.  The doors were metal and there were no windows. I wonder why.  When I come in everyone is chatting, and I feel lonely.  The boy who brought me in smiles and says,”So, I don’t have any friends here… Want to be friends?”

I nod,it’s nice to have friends in an unfamiliar environment.  I forgot to wear a name tag like it said in the letter, but he has one. Shin Itami? He’s the ultimate kindness! No wonder why he wants to be my friend.  He must be confused that I don’t have a nametag, I split away from him to try and meet other students.  Most of them are talking so I just sit on the bleachers in the gym, isn’t there supposed to be a meeting?  I put my pet carrier down and put my finger in between the bars to boop my cat on the nose.

Then through the speaker a cartoonish sounding voice says”Welcome to Hope’s Peak Academy. My apologies but you may never leave this school again, unless you kill one of your fellow classmates and get away with it, that shouldn’t be too hard, right? Anyways, you each have a room with your name on it and you can not sleep outside of a room, it will be considered as napping, we do not allow napping in this school. Have a good time here, you have everything you could ever want, except WiFi. There are no classes and you can stay out until 10:00 PM. Have a great day!”.

 Everyone’s eyes look shocked and terrified,including mine.  “There’s no way anybody would kill the other students!”I heard someone call from the crowd.

Someone comes out to the front of all the students,she has cyan hair which goes down to her knees. She says to where everyone can hear,” I believe anybody would, since it means they get freedom! I think some of you may even do it soon.  I don’t even know why I got into this school but I know that I don’t want to be stuck in it!”.

She has a good point. I walk over to another corner of the gym, where there are two boys with black hair speaking, I recognize Itami as one of them and stand next to them.  The other boy has hair covering one of his eyes, and his eyes are dark red.  He notices me,but Itami doesn’t.  “Well if we get freedom for murder… I might start off the killings, with someone or..something.”The boy I don’t recognize says, after he says it he looks at me.

    I’m still holding my pet carrier and my cat has fallen asleep.  I back away from them,into the crowd with the other students.  Everyone is much more quiet now, and I just stand there among the crowd. Why did that guy look at me? I didn’t even think of looking at his nametag either. People start leaving the gym and after most of them are gone, only me, Itami, and that guy he was talking with are in the room.  Itami walks over to me and seems like he’s about to talk but before he does I ask, ”So do you think that guy is really going to kill someone?”, as I say this I point to the other guy in the room.

     Itami doesn’t respond, so I walk out of the gym and down the hall to where the rooms are.  I enter my room and let my cat out of her carrier, then I lay on my bed where she lays next to me.  I fall asleep slowly while hugging Kusuka. In the morning, someone knocks on my door. I stand up and slowly walk over to the door.”Who is it?”I say,quietly.

“My name is Utaga, everyone is supposed to meet for breakfast in the dining hall,everyone else is already there.”,she says.

I open the door and shut it behind me then walk to the dining hall with her.  I didn’t lock my door, but does it matter? When we get there two people seem to be missing, Itami and that other goth looking guy.  I sit at the table and someone hands me a bagel, which I eat quickly.  Somebody offers to go check for them in case they are hurt, she has light pink hair which is in short pigtails and has light green eyes.  Her name tag says Sōchōna Inochirā,she’s the high school ultimate nurse. Makes sense that she would be concerned.  She came back saying they were not in their rooms and she heard some noises that sounded like meows and whimpers, but she wasn’t aware anybody had a cat with them.
