What is nice?

  My whole life I never really thought much of others, I've always expected them to do what I said up until a few years ago. When I really learned that you need people to hold you up and that they need you. But what if you only had a small group of people to hold you up your entire life, all because you made one really big mistake and a few small ones to go with it.
  That's were my uncle comes in, he made a few small mistakes and one really big one, this ended in jail. So for as long as I can remember we went out once a year to visit him. We would get up at 4am and drive for 5 hours to make it in time for visiting, then we would stay for about 6 hours then drive home. Because of this I never really knew him until about three years ago.
  Around the time I had just entered middle school my uncle was moved to the prison in my town so we got to visit him a lot more. We always talked when I went, we talked a lot, about books, my grades, or even volleyball. (I was on the team)
  A lot of people say only bad people go to prison, but I don't think that's true, I think only people who do bad things or who are just plain unlucky go to prison. Cause when I visit him I see nice people everywhere, that lady kissing the guy who looks like her fiancé, that man who lets his little girl run and jump into his arms, the old guy who wrote his wife a poem, or that family that I saw one time who brought a kid in a wheel chair who didn't talk normally. And my uncle who asks me how my grades are and helps me with things I don't know, who recommends books to me, who gives me volleyball tips, who towers above everyone but still gives warm hugs.
  Do these sound like bad people to you? I think they are all nice people who just did some bad things, and are paying for it, I don't think most people in prison are bad. But some do, so I need to ask, what is nice? And what is bad? Because if those people are bad then we all are because we are just like them, they just made some mistakes.
