My dusty pink raincoat was covered with tiny raindrops that shimmered in the moonlight. My light purple hair was now saturated and had turned into a shade of dark violet. It was 10: 40 pm Friday night and I had missed the bus that would take me to my warm, cosy bed and my old coffee machine. The two things I love most in the world, that are so far out of my reach. I was here was because I had taken a day off work last week when my Mother was discharged from hospital. Consequently, I needed to work overtime to make up for it. I had forgotten a lot of things since I started looking after my mother. Setting my alarm clock, making my lunch and checking the last bus I could catch, so I wouldn't end up in the God damn rain!
A frosty breeze passed through me, I could feel the Goosebumps starting to rise and my teeth had begun to chatter. I tried to rub my arms with my woollen mittens hoping it would warm me up, but my mittens were soggy and had no warming effect at all. A car came speeding passed me and its wheels splattered a dirty water puddle across me. The day seemed to have a grudge against me. After I collected myself, I noticed across the street that there was a lively little cafe hidden away from the world in the corner of an old street. I had seen the cafe a thousand times but never bothered to think much of it. Right now, it was the only thing that I could think of to save me from the rain. I ran across the road, avoiding the cars zooming passed. When I opened the cafe door, my withering figure was hit with a wave of sweet sugary warmth passing throughout body.
There were not many people inside the cafe and, even then, there was no-one that I knew. I found a booth near the back of the cafe, right next to a heater. The warmth made this stormy night feel a lot better. I placed my bag on the table and rested my head on it. I had no plan from here. With my mum's health being the way it was, I didn't want her driving in this weather. I could wait here all night until the next bus came. Unfortunately that would be eight hours away. While I was trapped in my thought portal, thinking about the endless ways my life is constantly getting screwed over, I was awoken by a waiter that had come by and placed a tall milkshake glass in front of me. His kind act brought me joy on this miserable, grey night. A smile had rose to my face and I heard a chuckle and footsteps becoming distant. I looked up to see him walking away. I couldn't see his face. He had raven black hair and a slim, yet muscular, figure. Everything about him comforted me and gave me a familiar feeling. I looked back down to my mysterious milkshake that was sitting before me. I hadn't had a milkshake in years. I started slipping it, before pulling back shocked by the flavour. It was my favourite flavour. I only ever new of one cafe that made it and it wasn't this one.
My head stretched trying to peer over and around the booth, looking for the waiter, but he hadn't returned from the kitchen. I saw a waitress rise from the counter and waved my hand, catching her attention. She looked to be in her 40's and had short chestnut hair.
"What do you want?" She said as she got to my booth.
She had a thick American accent and was chewing a large wad of gum as she placed one hand on her hip. I was startled at first but the urge to find out that waiter's name was just too intense for any awkward silence.
"May I ask, who was the waiter that gave me the double choc, strawberry mint milkshake?"
She didn't reply to my urgent question. All she did was eye me up, scanning every inch of my soaked, wet clothes and still was chewing her gum as if her life depended on it. Maybe I wasn't being precise enough.
"Um the one with black hair and is quite tall. I— I think we were friends and went to school together."
This time she did reply but still in her uninterested manner,"Oh do you mean Andrew?"
"Yes" I answered like it was hot water being poured on me. " Andrew Hedgeman? Was he the one that gave me this milkshake?"
" Ah so you do know him, I thought you were one of the leaches, trying to stick your teeth into him."
