For 8th grade, you'd think people would stop with all the nonsense and be more mature right? Wrong. There are so many stupid people that are all about themselves and their friends or the sporty guys that think beating a girl is such an accomplishment, and please don't forget about the smart cheerleaders that think their cool because they wear short skirts and can kick high enough so the guys can see their Calvin Klein underwear that their rich mommies and daddies bought for them. The teachers at our school seem pretty normal, but their miserable and just waiting to get a promotion or a raise of some sort, but they know it's not coming and they still have no idea why they are still teaching because they are waiting for absolutely nothing don't get me wrong there are nice teachers, but it's rare. Don't forget about the gamers that have youtube channels and play Minecraft for a living and sit in a corner with their own little groups and talk about the recent update to dungeons and dragons, and then there are the goth delinquents. They go around school sitting in the bathrooms smoking weed and vandalizing the walls of the bathroom stall and whoever gets in their way they might come back with a bloody nose or a black eye and of course, the miserable teachers don't care unless it benefits themselves in any way. We pretty much put them in categories already the jocks, the cheerleaders, the nerdy gamers, the goth delinquents, and oh yea I forgot the outcasts... that would be me, Lydia.
Our school is home of the Tigers and it's so basic it makes me want to puke thinking of it. I'm Lydia not like most people care and almost everybody's name in my grade is Madison or McKenzie and of course the captain of the cheerleading squad is Madison and she goes around like really any basic bully calling people cruel names, judging their outfits, and sticking gum under desks and behind doorknobs because they are done with it and are too lazy to get up and throw it away. The guys at our school think they are some hot shot and go for every girl they see not including me. Madison and her boyfriend Cole go around like they are couple of the year kissing near lockers and in closets, so no one can get into them not even our school custodian, Steve. Our teachers obviously don't give a crap because they are just waiting for something interesting to happen, so they can get a raise or quit either way it wouldn't change how people act and behave at this school.
Since I'm a so-called outcast, I sit in the corner by the trashcan in the lunchroom, go to my classes as quickly as I can, and go to the library to read alone in the morning. I'm basically alone all the time, but my family is something else. My mom works at the hospital 24/7 and my dad got killed while in the Air Force, I have a little brother named Sam that's in 3rd grade and is also a straight-A student. He has curly brown hair that twists into knots and a smile that's just too cute and glasses that slip down to the bridge of his button nose and his chocolate brown eyes that you just can't resist. I'm Lydia (As I said before probably no one cares) and I have bleach blonde straight long hair that goes down to my butt, and I'm pretty tan and strong long legs from cross country and track. My mom's name is Jane and she has blonde sandy hair and is tan and my Mom's boyfriends name is Mark and is very tall, strong, and looks like he has had 5 plastic surgeries. Sam and I ride separate buses, but I always wait with him until his bus comes, and since my mom's not home in the morning I make breakfast, wash clothes, clean, and pick Sam's favorite shows for him. I'm basically the mom of the house and with all the homework I have it's overwhelming sometimes, but I get through it by myself. I got a job during the summer at six flags and I didn't want to get a job there with all the screaming kids and picky customers, but it's the only job they would give to a 14 year old girl.
My day goes by pretty fast if I don't talk to anybody and I like it that way. I get through college and go travel the world in a hot air balloon with someone I love right next to me with a cute smile... That's the dream, but really all I can do is go to college with the money I have been saving up and after my 4 years I take Sam to live with me and wait till he graduates so I can get a decent job, and get Sam through college and make sure he's alright.
My first hour of school is social studies and it goes by so freakishly slow then there's weights, language arts, science, study hall, Math, and then French. My lunch is the last lunch so there is always barely any food left and it's disgustingly gross food that is alive I'm pretty sure. In the 6th grade McKenzie Altman swore she saw her food move, and in 7th grade, Jade Mcquerry got her own food spilled all over her and no one was near her. That's why I pack Sammy's and my lunch, so we don't have to wait in a long line just to eat food that wasn't killed all the way. When I eat I usually read adventure books or murder mysteries because those are my absolute favorite books.
You're probably wondering while I'm still talking to you about nonsense and just want me to get on with the story of how I ended up falling for a boy I knew I couldn't get, making friends that got my back till death, and why on Earth I am sitting on a hospital bed making this book... Don't worry... I'm getting to the point.
