Dear Journal,

Soulmate. Such a short word with a strong connotation, you decide if it's good or bad. Whenever I hear the word soulmate, I feel an impending doom tower in front of me, an uneasy aura filling the air. I guess that is not always the case though.

You know that feeling when it's been a long seven months of below zero weather and you walk outside for the first time in what feels like years. No jacket on, cool, but not cold breeze that allows your lungs to fill with a sense of freshness; a new beginning. You feel invincible like everything is going to be okay and the world is yours to control. That is what a soulmate is. That feeling of being restored. That person or thing (in some cases) is your breath of fresh air, the one who will always be there for you to put you back on track and help you step up on to the podium to make that inspiring speech. This all sounds incredible right? If only I could find that one person (yes person for me. I thought pizza rolls were my soulmate, but oh honey was I wrong.) to make me feel alive again.

Here's the disappointing thing about soulmates. You cannot look for them, it's not that easy. I believe the universe has some crazy timing and you always find them when you least expect it. I've dreamt about finding my soulmate many times, usually along the lines of me being in the pit at a concert looking up at my favorite musician. I would be screaming the lyrics (as I do) and then, just like the movies, time would stop when we make eye contact. In the background you can hear the beginning bars of some cheesy love song and instantly we would both know what comes next. Our love story would be the story for the front page of the latest gossip magazine: how we clicked so quickly and how we were meant to be. Of course fantasies rarely come true, but that is what I imagine would happen when you two finally meet. I guess the big deal about soulmates is what it means to have finally found them though. You know how I compared it to a breath of fresh air? In this day and age, it's hard to find that fresh air when there is so much to be stressed about. To be able to have a constant stream of non-polluted oxygen to help you feel okay would mean the world to me considering I literally don't know how not to be stressed. The cuddles wouldn't be a downside either.

All in all the idea of soulmates can make or break you, but no matter the cost I would like to think mine is somewhere out there.

Hopelessly in love with love,

Mads
