Pain.

I tried to open my eyes, but to no avail. My body doesn't even seem to cooperate with whatever it is I want it to do. My mind is hazy, it feels as if my brain is nothing but a mushy lump of meat.

"Yes, ......at's it. Ke.. ... stabilized, don't .... ... .... of that ...ative, you .... me?"

A really, really faint voice rings throughout my head. No, it's not just a mere voice. But rather, a bunch of noises.
Then a soft tap on my shoulder.

"... llo. How .. ... .eel?"

I had finally regained some senses on my muscles, albeit not much, and I try to open my eyes.

Heavy

A bright light immediately welcomes my vision. So bright, now I wish I hadn't opened it.

"... Ugh..."

The first thing I saw is a lady, clad in a white uniform. She had long, wavy brown hair and matching brown eyes.

"Hello, hello. How do you feel?", she said, smiling. Her smile feels so gentle, yet somehow my heart tells me it's wrong.

I mustered up my best effort to speak, "... Fhineh.."

"Ah, I see it hadn't wore off yet. Don't worry, just take it easy."

She then walked off to a nearby desk full of things I don't understand. Well, most of it looks like what a fancy hospital would have, anyways...

... Hospital...?

Now that I think about it, where am I?
I looked around.

A clean, bright, white room. It sends out a somehow eerie atmosphere.
I am currently laying down on a bed.
When I look at my arms, I saw many... What is it called? Cables? Plastic cables? ... Hospital hose?? Agh, come on brain. Work with me at least a little here.

They are connected to many foreign machineries. At least, the only machine I can recognize is the EKG, but other than that... I don't know.

I tried to look for the lady. Ah, there she is. Is she... Talking to someone at the... Door?

"But, sir. With all due respect, I cannot let this continue...", the lady spoke.

"No. Keep him there, don't let him go anywhere. We need this experiment to be a success," said a  man in a deep, slightly grunting voice.

"Even if you have to use him? Even if you have to sacrifice your own child!? What's next, his little brother!?"
"... I must go."
"Wait—!"
"Carrie. I had trusted you with this, even more than my own wife."
"..."
"Now, excuse me."

Blam. Door closed. I don't really understand what was going on, but apparently, I am in a somewhat dire situation. Or am I?

The lady walked back to me, "I'm sorry, are you hungry, dear?"

"Somewhat...", I replied, "Umm... Who are you, though?"

"Ah! I haven't introduced myself, have I? I am Carrie Magdalene, just call me Miss Carrie", she said in a gentle tone, "... And that man earlier... Was your father."

My father...?

Suddenly, memories are coming through my mind in such speed, I'm afraid my brain would have melted first.

Ah, it's been this far, yet I haven't introduced myself.

My name is Mizu Line, the first son of the Line family. I'm currently... 17 years old.
My father is Garrington Line, more known as Dr. Line, a famous doctor of a renowned hospital. Some also said that he is involved with some top-notch researchers to find new kinds of medicines.
My mother is Kashih-na Line, a famous dancer, known for her elegant movements, who had since long retired when she brought me and my brother into this world.
My brother, Ron Line... Strange. I know we are pretty close to each other, yet... Something feels missing. All that I remember is that he is 15, years old, a rather calm person, yet can be pretty weird sometimes.

My father is known to be a really ambitious person. All that he wants, he gets. No one can get in his way.

"Alright then, here you go."

My train of thought stopped immediately. I looked to my side, only to find Miss Carrie had brought some food.

Mmm, chicken.

She sat closely next to my bed and served a bowl of chicken soup.

"Sorry to keep you waiting!"
"It's fine..."
"Now then, open your mouth and say—"

"I... I am not a small child...", I said. "I can perfectly feed myself."

But Miss Carrie waved her finger instead, "Oh no, I wouldn't want you to stumble and accidentally spill it all over you. Also, Doctor's orders."

She fed me the soup when suddenly, someone opened the door, and a man walked in. Like Miss Carrie, his outfit is clean white, although he wears a coat instead. His hair is also pure white, but I know that it is merely a hair dye.

"Ah. I see that I had interrupted you two. Please don't mind me, carry on", he said with a smile. A smile... That hides something sinister.

"Father...", I groaned.
"Oh, Dr. Line..."
"Please, Carrie. How many times must I tell you to simply call me 'Garry'. Or Dr. 'Garry' here."

Something tells me this is wrong. This isn't how my father usually act.

"Father, what is...?"

Father completely bruised off my question and simply waves his hand, signaling something.

Miss Carrie held my arm.

Father looked at me with a questioning look.
"Son, I'd like to apologize to you, right here, and right now. As you can see, my— Carrie, do it."

Suddenly, my vision blurs, and I tried to look at Miss Carrie, only to find her with a syringe at one hand, the other holding my arm.

"M... Miss Carrie?"
"Mizu, I'm very, very sorry..", she frowns.

"I'm apologize, Mizu. But this..... Is for a greater good. You see, my... Colleagues, I might say, and I, are trying to research on how to prevent... Death.", Father explained, "And we had just reached a conclusion. By uploading our conciousness to the Internet, we.......... May actually............. And ........ Test subjects..............."

His words are trailing off my ears as my senses are leaving me.

Ah, I get it now...
I am being used, aren't I?
And if I ended up being a failure, then he ..... Might use..... Brother, next....

The next thing I know, everything turns dark and my every thoughts have vanished, fading into...

Nothingness.
