Chapter 1: the invitation

I cast the thoughts of the snake away, and went upon my daily business. For survival is much more important. Living in these woods has been very hard, especially when I had been raised all spoiled like all other children in the Blue Seas. I gracefully stood and grabbed my bow and quiver as I walked out my makeshift tree house. I positioned an arrow on my bow and walked into the thicket; to hunt for my breakfast.

If I was the spoiled little girl from ten years ago, I wouldn’t be killing animals for food. But after a year of living alone in these woods, I learned that it was the only way to survive. But I had learned that the hard way, after nearly starving to death in the first winter.

First of all, my past and how I got myself on a floating island is unknown to everyone, because no one that knows that I am alive. I had given up hope for searching for my friends and neighbors on the island after my home island had gotten blasted to pieces. Even though I knew exactly who destroyed my life I do not seek revenge because I had also known the general reason of why.

His name is Damon, he’s a magic user. He told me that fact when I had asked why he was gone from school so much. To others that asked the same question he would say that he has family problems. So I questioned him why answered me differently. He simply shrugged it off and answered carefully, “My father thinks it necessary to gain your trust, but I myself would believe that it is because he is selfish. So may I warn you to be prepared if anything... unexpected happens.”

That was all he ever said to me because I was a non-talkative person. But for some reason, I had believed him and had packed a bag with all my most prized belongings and many necessities. The preparations proved to have come in handy to survive in the beginning. But, I had regretted not telling any of my friends about Damon’s warning, for they must have all died in the explosion.

I am sure that the magic users are still alive, because they were most likely the ones who had caused this chaos to happen. But I knew enough to not hold a grudge and seek revenge because if they truly can use powerful magic, than I wouldn’t stand a chance.

I was walking silently over the forest floor when I heard flapping and bird calls from above. A hawk flew by as I raised my bow, took aim and let the arrow fly. A clean shot through the eye showed how much I had improve since I had first arrived. The bird fell a short distance away. I walked to it, retrieved my arrow, and saw that the bird was holding a note in its beak.

I picked up the letter and read it a few times over:

“To Robin,

I hope that you have been holding up well for the past ten years. I would like to call a meeting for all the survivors to gather and prepare to go to war against the devils that caused this. Meet at the tallest tree of this island if you can. The meeting will begin when most have arrived.

From,

Dreck”

Dreck. Dreck was my childhood friend since the age of three. I had always admired him but had never really held a true casual conversation with him before... But how has he survived? Why does he sound so serious? And why does he want to go to war with magic users? Can’t he accept that he can’t win? So why fight?

While I was asking myself these questions, another thing occurred to me, there were regular people other than me on this island. I made my decision; I would go to the tallest tree, just to see the people who did survive. But, I told myself, I will not fight in this war that Dreck plans to rage. I knew where the tallest tree was, it is right in the middle of this island. So I strode deeper into the forest towards the great tree, to see what awaits me.
