Red stockings hung freely above the fireplace and the crackling sound of burning wood met the ears of shared company. A Christmas tree stood tall in the livingroom; sprinkled with ornaments and other seasonal decor. Underneath were presents, wrapped neatly and left delicately on display. The alluring aroma of turkey and other cooked foods filled the space. Soft jazz from the old record player played in the background and the atmosphere felt tranquil.

Evening gone to night, you and Donnel cuddled up by the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate and blanket draped over your shoulders, embellishing the serenity with holiday spirit.

After taking a sip of his beverage Donnel sighed in delight. "Whew wee, that's somethin' nice I tell ya." complimented the farmer. "You sure do make a mean ole thang of hot chocolate I tell ya what! Got my tummy and insides feelin' warmer than an incubator!" He chimed. You blushed and laughed at his flattery. Frowning a bit, Donnel looked over to you and huffed. "Did I say somethin' funny?"

"No, it's not that." You said shaking your head. "I just think your accent is adorable."

Now it's his turn to blush.

"D'aw... that's mighty kind of ya to say." Donnel grumbled, cheeks flushing red. "I still don't know how a fella like me ended up with someone like you, but I'm grateful!" He beamed and flashed a toothy smile. The farmer then took your hand into his and stared deep into your eyes.

Beautiful...

"Speakin', why don'tcha go 'head and open the present I got'cha!"

A small pout crossed your lips and you sat your mug down. "I thought we weren't opening presents until later tonight?" You asked. Donnel shook his head. "Nope! Had a change of heart 'cause I'm full of Christmas excitement!"

"Or maybe you're just impatient..." you mumbled and heard him whine. "Aw c'mon (name)! Will ya please open the gift I got'cha? I promise I won't ask for anything else tonight!" He'd plea giving you the puppy-dog look. Unable to decline, you caved with a groan and rolled your eyes, eliciting a triumphant cheer from the farmer. "Fine, I'll open your gift." You sighed reaching for the red and yellow box.

Donnel's eyes twinkled like stars in the night sky when you began undoing the bows and unravelling the paper. From the corner of your eye you could see him bouncing with glee; as a giddy as a kid receiving candy. When all the wrapping was gone, what was left was a piece of paper. A note. As you read through the message, your heart began to beat a bit faster. Tears formed in your eyes and you mouthed a hoarse "oh my God..."

(Name)? Me and you been together since we were kids and it ain't not a thing I don't remember doin' without you bein' by my side. Whenever I'm with you I feel like I can be myself. You make me feel so good — and I much appreciate it! You're all I ever think about and without'cha I dunno what I'd do? I guess what I'm tryin' to say is I love ya. Now for this next thing, I need ya to look at me...

And with a slow, steady gaze, you looked up and locked eyes with Donnel to find him holding a small black box. A transluscent stream of tears trailed from your eyes to your cheeks and you stared in awe at the farmer before you.

"I know I can't give ya much, but I'll give ya all I can... This here ring is the ring my pa gave me and told me to only present it when I think I found the one and the timing is right. I don't ask for much, but (name)... Will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"

"Oh God, yes! Yes Donnel, I will marry you!" You exclaimed and jumped into his arms. Donnel laughed in merriment and the internal apprehension he felt dispersed. He wrapped his arms around you and held you close, taking in your scent. "Heh, I'm so happy you ain't reject me. Now all them dreams I been havin' of you and I can come true. Plus, I reckon (Name) Tinhead sounds like one heck of a name.~"
