The New Girl

I rushed out of my front door at 7:20 in the morning, just like I do every other school day. I like to keep a nice routine whenever I can.

I continue to walk down the street until I spot a familiar face standing in front of a familiar place. The face belongs to a guy named Alex, who happens to be my best friend of ten whole years. It's shocking that he's put up with me this long.

"Nathan, right on time!", he yelled when he saw me.

I picked up my pace so that he wouldn't have time to yell something else. Don't want to wake up the neighborhood.

" Keep your voice down," I whisper yelled, " we can't wake up Miss Greenwood again. You remember what happened last time?"

Alex smirked and started walking. He's trying to play it cool, but he doesn't know I saw that sliver of fear in his eyes.

After a few minutes of walking and chatting, we finally reached the school. Norwood High was one of the "best" schools in the nearby area, but if you were a student you wouldn't exactly agree. Sure the teachers are good and the food seems real, but the students make this place seem like a living nightmare sometimes.

Alex and I part ways as I head to my locker. Number 208, as it has been all semester. Today, however, was different. Instead of seeing a number plaque, my eyes fell upon a girl that looked confused. She was mumbling something about not wanting to be here, which is completely understandable.

She has long brown hair that goes down to the middle of her back. She's wearing a white leather jacket with wings on the back, along with a pair of ripped black jeans and white Converse.

She finally notices me as I go to open up my locker. I smiled at her before grabbing what I needed for my first three classes of the day. English, Math, then History, just like yesterday. I glance back at the girl just in time to catch her kick the locker in frustration.

I begin to ask if she needs help but stop myself when the locker opens up. I blink twice to make sure I saw that correctly.

"How did you do that?", I asked with a dumb look on my face.

Shrugging, she replied, " I didn't do anything, it just opened. It would have been nice if someone offered to help though."

"Oh, yeah sorry about that. I was going to help but then you opened it. My name's Nathaniel, by the way."

"I'm Blaire, nice to meet you. Hey you don't happen to know where Mrs. Matthews class is by any chance? I'm kinda new here and that's the one teacher I didn't get to talk too before starting here."

She has the same first class as me. Her name is Blaire and she has first period English with Mrs. Matthews. She has long brown hair and white leather jacket with wings. Her locker is right next to mine.

I smile and nod my head when I notice her awkwardly avert her gaze. I closed my locker and lead her to our class, which was actually one of my favorites. Matthews was never boring and she didn't give out too much homework.

Today, however, I couldn't focus on her, but found myself thinking about the new girl with wings. There's something about her that makes her stand out from everyone else, and I want to know more about it.
