Rowan pushed his glasses up as they fell down his nose, he then continued to read Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone for the fifth time. He was sitting on one the neighbourhoods park benches. He would've been reading at home, in his bedroom, under his feathered blanket, if his parents weren't fighting, again. The fifteen year old hated it when his parents fought, mainly because it was about him.
Rowan's parents always fought about anything really, the topic of today's fight was about him. His parents, Jane Denver and Marcus Lee, were split up. They had been since Rowan was five. Jane had got caught cheating on Marcus, by Marcus himself. They both wanted custody of their son, so they split it. But Jane wanted for Rowan to stay with her permanently, and Marcus just wouldn't let it happen.
Rowan was pulled out of the book when he heard some singing. He lifted his head to see who it was and saw a girl with curly brown hair. She looked to be around his age, but Rowan had never seen her before. She continued singing off key until she fell over legs by twirling around. The girl looked around with a faint blush on her cheeks, the blush intensified as her eyes landed on Rowan.
Rowan placed his book mark in the book before closing it gently, he gathered his stuff and made his way over to the girl, who was now swearing under her breath.
"Why do I have such fucking long legs?" She groaned under her breath. It was just loud enough for Rowan to hear.
"Are you Okay?" Rowan asked as his eyes scanned her body for injury's.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." She huffed. "You get used to it after a while. You don't mind helping me up do you?"
"No, of course not!" Rowan said grabbing her outstretched hand and pulling her up.
"Please don't be cracked, please don't be cracked..." rowan heard the girl beg under her breath as she pulled out her phone from her back pocket. "Oh thank god."
Rowan could heard Shawn Mendes' song, Don't Be A Fool, playing from her headphones.
"I'm Belle." The girl said, Belle "And this is the part where you say your name..."
"Oh! It's rowan." Rowan said ruffling his fluffy brown hair. "It's nice to meet you Belle."
"You too Rowan."
The two stared at each other until Belle redirected her hazel eyes to the book in his hand.
"You reading Harry Potter?" She Asked. "My sister loves the books."
"Yeah, starting the series over again, I have nothing else to do." Rowan shrugged, looking up at the sky, which had gotten darker.
Belle seemed to realise that too as she opened her mouth to speak. "I've got to head home, don't want to worry my older brother."
Rowan didn't questions why she said 'older brother' instead of parents, he remembered not everyone had both their parents, or none at all. Like Harry Potter.
"Yeah, me too. I'll see you around, maybe?" Rowan adked hopefully. When Belle nodded a real smile creeped onto his face. Rowan almost forgot what it felt like to smile, a non fake one that is.
The two smiled at each other before turning in the opposite direction and walking to their houses. Rowan looking back over his shoulder to see Belle twirling and leaping around as she sung to Shawn Mendes. He let out a laugh and dug his hands deeper into his jean pockets.
