Chapter 1
"Okay, first day of high school. You'll be fine." Aurora energetically motivated herself as she buttoned the two straps of her uniform top. She turned to the mirror to look over herself and took some deep breaths to calm herself. The young girl was around five feet, all around average body with brown hair that flowed down past her elbow. The uniform that she wore was complicated to put on but it gave her a sense of being free. She took one glance at the emblem that was embroidered on top of her heart. West Side Violin Academy. One of the four elite high schools that you could get into if you had really good connections or just gifted by god. But most of the time it was the connections. This academy was part of a whole system consisting of four schools. Each school is based on an instrument, violin, viola and bass, cello, and percussion. These schools make up the five West Side Orchestras.
Aurora put her violin case on her bed, opened it and examined every part of it. Okay, rosin, bow, other bow, backup backup bow, shoulder rest, and violin! She latched the case back up and threw it over her shoulder as she grabbed her zip-up binder that contained her audition music.
"Bye Mom, Bye Dad!" Aurora yelled as she ran out the door. She had no reason to say those words as her parents were always busy away at their work. It had become a routine because it had been three years of this repeated pattern. When she came home she would get a boxed dinner out of the freezer and eat it while doing her homework. She didn't do it to gain attention, she was just bored. She felt no sadness about her parents as she ran through the main road of West Side Education, where at the end of that path would be West Side Violin Academy. The whole road was full of all kinds of different grades and skill levels all focused around The Arts. It's what you would expect in a sector called 'The Arts'. As Aurora ran, the massive gates of the school approached into view. They were open and students were walking into them to the massive castle that was right in front of them. And to say that it was a castle was an understatement. Aurora's eyes widened from the view and almost squealed from the excitement.
"Hey, you might want to tone it down a bit."
Aurora spun around and came face to face with blonde-haired boy that was about the same size as her.
"A-ah, yea, I guess you're right. But look at this place! It's amazing!" Aurora threw down her hands as to try to prove a point. It was at that moment the she realized that all of the other students had a very calm demeanor. She wondered how they all looked so expressionless to the grand mass before them. Were they oblivious? Or just soulless?
"It's okay, I can tell that you're Prelude musician, right?" The boy smiled at her. She was a little relieved because he seemed a bit more human. But then his words struck her in the heart.
"How dare you call me a beginner, I have been performing for five years already! Lemme guess, you're a Repertory player?" She pointed at his face, her face flushed red.
"Ha, Philharmonic, performed eight years. But if you are so skilled, then why don't you have a patch? Everyone got one with their uniforms." He pulled his uniform at his right shoulder to show a round patch with the name Philharmonic and a gold note.
"Well, I haven't auditioned yet. Talking about my audition, I gotta run. Bye!" She ran away waving to him.
Philharmonic eh? Guess it doesn't take much to get into the top. I wonder which orchestra I will be placed into? Five options. I am definitely too advanced for Prelude. Capriccio would still be really easy on me, same for Repertory. I could've been in that one a year ago. That leaves me with two options. The Symphony, or Philharmonic. Might as well set my sights on Philharmonic. Who knows, I might even end up as concertmaster!
