This morning was like a typical morning. I woke up ready to start the day. I was showered, dressed, I even ate breakfast. I was 99.9% ready to go.

"Bye Mom, Dad, Hayley!" I called up the stairs. No response. They were usually up by now but I was sure they were still sleeping. Rushing worriedly up the stairs, my breath hitched in my throat. Oh God. What if something happened to them? My parents were great parents. They paid for my food and clothes and if I didn't have access to any of that...I decided not to think about it.

Positive thoughts, Everly, keep it positive. I thought to myself. I went to my parents' room first.

"Hello?" I asked. Once again, dead silence. Hands trembling, I cautiously walked up to my sleeping mother. I shook her. Once. Twice. The third time, my hands shook her shoulder back and fourth vigorously. Nothing. I took a step back. My vision became blurry, sobs escaping my mouth. I tried again with my father and then with my sister. No movement whatsoever.

Dead.

That was all I could think. They were dead. I was overcome with emotions. What could I do? I paced the living room for a few seconds before an idea popped into my head. The neighbors! Maybe they knew what happened. I sprinted out the door and across the lawn. These people were surely awake. Everyday, they were doing some kind of work early in the morning. I pounded on the door, hoping someone would answer. After a few seconds I gave up. Defeated, I trudged back to my house.

Think! I yelled at myself.

Maybe the police could help. I grabbed my bike and rode to the city station. I threw my bike against the wall and ran inside. Everything seemed untouched. Like no one had been there. It was eerily silent and it sent shivers down my spine. I (stupidly) came to the conclusion that a little exploring couldn't hurt. I walked down a long, dark hallway and somehow stumbled upon a staircase. Hm. That would be interesting to go up.

Another stupid decision. I took a step forward into a room at the end of the staircase. My head was screaming no but my heart told me yes. Curiosity never killed the cat, right? I stepped into the room and I saw a man, eyes closed. He was still gripping the pencil he was writing with. I screamed. I stumbled out the room and ran back up the flight of stairs out onto the street.

I was wrong.

Curiosity did kill the cat. Still too shaken to keep my footing, I tripped over a rock and fell, my phone went spiraling across the pavement. Suddenly, it lit up. A message from twitter popped up on the home screen. It read...

"Is anyone else freaking out?" I scrolled down.
