It was the first day of spring. I was somewhat happy for the out come of the weather today. For the sole purpose that I could go out and get Starbucks. I know. I'm basic. But don't judge me we all
have our guilty pleasures. Some people like pickles and peanut butter others like watching people whisper into a microphone. I happen to just love Starbucks. I got up that morning, did the regular daily routine and headed out of the house. My family isn't rich but we're not poor either. You could say we are middle class. My moms a doctor and my dads a professor. I have one older brother (he's 19) and a younger sister (she's 14). My sister is my literal best friend. We talk about any and everything. She's the first person I came out to. The rest of my family doesn't know and that's ok with me. I guess I'm just not ready for them to know. My brother and I aren't very close but we still love each other. Whenever he would sneak home from a party or bring a girl home, he knew I always had his back. My mom is a diehard Christian. My dad on the other hand is a liberal. How these two came to be, is a question only God can answer. I'm going on this rant about my family and forgot to introduce myself. Hi, my name is Oliver. I'm 17. I'm a junior in high school and I'm gay. Wow that's hard for me to say. But I feel a little more free every time I say it. Anyways back to my story, I got into my car to go to Starbucks. We lived in a quiet little neighborhood. So the ride to was quite quiet as per usual. I usually just go through the drivethru but this time I decided to actual find a seat and drink my coffee while looking at HOT guys that walked in. I promise I'm not a creep. Anyways I'm getting off track again. When I walked in to the store. My eyes fell on the most beautiful man I have ever seen. He was about 6 foot and he had wavy blonde hair. Those green eyes where so captivating, they could hypnotized someone. His face was that of an angel. As I walked in, I headed straight for the counter. He was the only person working so that gave me a chance to talk to this angel man.
"What would you like to order?"
He said with the biggest smile on his face.
"Uhhh...Uhhh...a venti strawberry Frappuccino"
I stuttered.
"And can I have your name?"
Why would he want my name? Is he flirting with me? What should I do? Wait. He needs my name for the order. -mental face palm-
"Oliver"
I replied.
"Coming right up, Oliver"
He answered with the sweetest voice I have ever heard.
I smiled back at him and proceeded to stand on the side to wait for my order. I don't know if I was dreaming or fantasizing but I swear I saw him smile the entire time he made my drink. When he was done, he handed me my drink and gave me a big smile. My heart skipped a beat and I was very flustered. I went and sat down to drink my strawberry frappe and watch this beautiful man continue to just be beautiful.
After sitting down and drinking my strawberry frappe, I decided to do some left over school work from the night before. Maybe I should give you guys some insight on my school life   to be able to tell this story well.
I'm a smart kid. Always got A's and B+'s. That being said, I am not a valedictorian in any sense of the word. I just go to school, do my work and pass. Grades are important to me but when I see my peers that spend hours upon hours studying for an exam I wonder if they even have a social life. I wouldn't categorize myself as a "popular kid" though people do know me around school because of my singing. Oh yeah, I sing by the way. The first time I ever sang was in freshman year and at my school all the freshman are mandatorily obligated to audition for the school choir. I was kinda nervous because I had never sang for anyone before and didn't expect anything from it. When I walked into the school auditorium it was pitch black. All the lights were off and the only light that was one was the spotlight shining brightly at the center of the stage. I felt like I was in a high school musical movie or something. I walk to the center of the stage and through the blinding light, I can see our notoriously awful choir director sitting within the seats of the empty auditorium.
He is known at my school to be awful to the students. He throws shoes at you if you don't hit the right notes and will cuss you out in a heartbeat. Even with all that abuse, he is by far the best choir director in our state. Our school has won countless awards and trophies from singing competitions and talent shows.
I state my name and the song I intend to sing for the audition. My palms are sweaty and I'm shaking from nervousness. The teacher says to me,
"Start already, my boy! I haven't got all day".
I quickly signal the DJ in the booth were the lights are coming from to start the music. I start singing. I pour my heart and soul into the song. This song was special to me. I had practiced it since I was a kid. I start getting close to the high not of the song and start to get nervous. Will I hit it? Can I reach the note? Will I embarrass myself in front of our choir director?!?! I reach the part of the song where the high note comes next. The music stops, it's time for me to do it. I take a deep breath. And with all my might, I belt out the high note. Hitting it with ease. I feel so proud of myself.
I finish the song off and just stand there waiting for my choir director to just say "Next". But he doesn't....he just sits there and looks at me. I start panicking, thinking I'm about to get a shoe thrown at me. He suddenly gets up from his chair and starts applauding. I was so confused. He wasn't know to have this type of behavior.
"Bravo! Bravo!" He says to me with tears in his eyes.
"In my 15 years of teaching at this school, I have never met a student with so much potential and talent as you".
I start to form a smile on my face and quickly say thank you as I walk off the stage.
From that point on he made me his star tenor.
Singing at every event, concert, and teacher meeting. Yes, you heard that right. Even at teacher meetings.
I became well known after that as the boy with the golden voice.
I enjoyed it though. I always thanked people who complimented me.
