He sighed and I watched him check the time as I finished my braid.

"Ten." He answered.

I smiled.

"Perfect." I whispered.

Suddenly there was a knock on my door.

"Galatea may I come in?"

My eyes widened in alarm. My mother!

"Hold on a moment mother!" I answered as I grabbed Kai's ear, dragging him towards my closet.

"Hey, ow, ow, ow! That hurts you know!" Kai whispered.

"I know now hush!" I said.

I opened up a different secret place, a hiding place for exactly this sort of thing.

"Stay here and do not move." I demanded and shut the wall.

I quickly walked out of the closet, closing the door and sat on my bed.

"Come in." I said.

My mother swung the door open and gracefully walked in.

"Darling can I ask how your visit with Prince Duke went?" She asked excitedly as she sat on my bed next to me.

I looked down at my lap and she sighed.

"Galatea you're 18th birthday is coming up. You know the rules." She scolded.

I bit my lip.

"But mother he's not the one in the prophecy!"

She waved her hand.

"No buts. I don't want to hear anything about that prophecy, it's all just poppycock. There are more important matters at hand." She said.

I sighed.

"Mother what's more important than the world ending?" I interrupted.

She stared at me.

"Young lady listen carefully. The world is not ending. If that prophecy were to even come true it would not be now. You need to focus more on your lessons and finding a suitable husband. Someone who will be able to stand by you and help you run this kingdom. It is not an easy task you know."

I sighed and stood up.

"Yes mother." I whispered, walking towards my window.

"Now tomorrow your father is..."

I ignored my mother ramble and watched two birds fly past my window. What I wouldn't do to be a bird so I could fly out of this prison.

"Galatea? Galatea, are you listening to me?"

I turned around.

"Pardon me?" I said.

Uh I hate speaking proper!

"I said your father is having a party tomorrow night and you are to make a speech about how you are accepting bachelors to propose." She said.

I gasped.

"What? But I'm not ready!" I said.

My mother rolled her eyes.

"Young lady when I was your age I was pregnant with your brother already! It's time you settle down yourself." She answered.

I stared at her in horror as a tear slid down my cheek.

"Yes mother." I whispered, my voice cracking.

She sighed.

"Get some sleep Galatea."

I watched as she got up and walked out of my room. I got up and slammed my door in anger, locking it. I was so mad...my breath came out in heavy pants as I slid down to the floor. I buried my head into my knees and started crying. I can't get married! What about all those storied my grandmother would tell me?!
