She took off within the moment I crawled onto her back.
“Just don’t throw me please”
“I won’t”
I gripped the saddle on both sides so I wouldn’t slid.
“Hold on tight Emilia” Zara said
“I will”
She began to free fall from the height we were at.
“Oh my gosh!” I yelled
“You always say that child”
“Why wouldn’t I? I’m only ten Zara, it’s still shocking to fly like you do”
“But you are a dragon rider, you have to learn to get used to this” she said
I smiled as we both leaned to the side. I looked down at the ground to make sure no one was watching.
“We should go back. Nicholas probably has dinner ready” I thought
She quickly turned around and flew back.
“I was getting worried. You two need to be back within a time limit” he said
“Okay Nicholas”
“Let’s eat”
I followed him inside to the kitchen. I sat down at the table as he handed me a bowl of stew.
“So what did you learn in school today for the little time that you were there?” he asked
“About the dragon riders”
“You didn’t reveal anything did you?” Nicholas asked
“No I didn’t. I made sure of it”
“What did you say to her?”
“I just told her the name of the last dragon rider” I answered
“Who happened to be your great great great grandfather”
“I know. But I have a question”
“What?” he asked
“Why did I become a dragon rider? I mean the gene skipped many children in the family”
“The gene picks specific children to be dragon riders” he answered
“Why?”
“Only some people can handle being a dragon rider. Others take it for granted or let it get to their head and think they can do whatever they wanted to” he said
I placed my empty bowl on the counter then looked at Nicholas.
“I will be in my room”
I picked Zara up and walked up the wooden stairs.
“Make sure you go to sleep early tonight. You have school in the morning” he said
“I will”
I closed my door and changed into my pajamas.
“Do I have to stay here tomorrow?” Zara asked
“Most likely”
“But what if you get into trouble?”
“Then you come rescue me” I answered
“I can try”
I lied down with her next to me.
“I don’t like going to school. I’m away from you” I whispered
“Yeah but you need the education for when you rule over everyone”
I pulled her into my arms and fell asleep.
“Emilia time to wake up!” Nicholas called
I slowly sat up and put my dress on. Zara followed me downstairs to the kitchen.
He handed me a bowl of oatmeal.
“I need you to call me Uncle even when we are at home” he said
“Why?”
“Just in case we have people over” he answered
“Okay Uncle”
After I finished my oatmeal, Nicholas helped me put my shoes on. I kissed Zara on her forehead then walked outside.
“I will be there when school ends” Nicholas said
“Okay Uncle”
I walked to the school yard to find Lydia and her friends outside.
“Emilia, this is Brooklyn, Zoey, Michelle, Alexis, and her twin sister Allison” Lydia said
“Hello”
I followed them into the classroom and sat down at my table.
“So children we are going to continue of lesson on the dragon rider” Miss Mary said
Everyone sat down and looked at her.
“Dragon riders were the most powerful supernatural creature that every excited. They were the people that kept the government in check. The government wanted the power that the dragon riders had. So they gave them an option. Either join them, or die. That is the reason dragon riders are not around anymore” Miss Mary said
“Everyone needs to go outside” a women said
“Okay everyone in a line please”
