No more blazing lights could be seen in the sky as the night turned into a black canvas. tumultuous grey clouds, filled with misery and dismay, over taking every little glimpse of light. Most people say 'you need a little bit of darkness to see the stars', but what do you do when there's no light to be found. Chills chased down my spine as I opened a little window to let some fresh air seep into the humid restaurant. I turned around to see the waiters walking around in lightning speed to attend to the customers needs without any second thought. Families smiling and laughing while enjoying their meals but something was missing... I couldn't quite lay my finger on it yet.
"Looking for someone?" A familiar voice whispered behind me
"Holy sh-" I shouted as I placed a hand on my chest and let out rapid breaths. Lily had scared me and left me frazzled.
"Hey, there are children around", she scolded.
"Shit sorry Mum" I said in a quieter and jokingly manner. Lily Marie Watkins has been my best friend since I was 5 and she was also a colleague of mine. We both started working here at the same time. I occupied the position as head chef and she was a waiter but after a while I became the manager.
"Who were you looking for, Angie?" She asked in a quizzical tone.
"You" I laughed. Lily laughed dryly with no amusement in her eyes as she looked down. "So have you seen Harvey around? I've been looking for him. He's the boss and yet he's no where to be found." Lily chirped up at the mention of our boss and my boyfriend.
"No I haven't seen him around." She said with an innocent look
"Lily why did you leave m-" Harvey stopped talking as he looked up and his eyes connected with mine. He looked like a dear caught in headlights. I raised my eyebrow in a questioning manner. He visibly gulped as he looked at lily for help.
"Why did I leave Miranda alone in the kitchen. Well you see Angelina looked visibly distressed so I had to help out a friend in need. Sorry Hun it won't happen again" She smirked and winked at him. Who the hell is she calling Hun?!
"I think you need to return to your place Liliana, kitchen now." I said in a stern voice, using my authority to my advantage.
I dragged her by her arm into the kitchen. As soon as we entered the kitchen she yanked her arm out of my grasp, giving me an icy glare.
"What the hell was that?" I questioned, throwing my arms up into the air and tapping my foot.
"What the hell was what? Are you jealous because I called him Hun. Rain check Angelina I call everyone Hun. If you haven't noticed, that says a lot about how much you pay attention to your best friend." She said in an annoyed tone.
"Do you wink at everyone too?" I said with no emotion. Trying to conceal the anger seething from me.
"Are you seeing things??" She asked in an exasperated tone. "I'd never, wink at someone you like especially not my boss and your boyfriend. I'd never intentionally hurt you Angie." My hardened expression softened. Maybe I'm paranoid because I've been working to much and not sleeping enough. Yeah that's it, I'm just paranoid.
"Sorry lily" I apologised in a defeated tone. I just wanted to go home and sleep. I was absolutely knackered, running this place isn't easy. Especially when your boss does nothing but watch his bank account fill up.

My shift was finally over but I wanted to make a quick Pitt stop at Harvey's house to wish him a good night. As I approached his house I saw the bedroom lights were on so I knew he was awake. I grabbed the spare key from the plant pot and entered the house. I tiptoed up the stairs trying not to be heard, I wanted to surprise him. If only I knew he wasn't going to be the only one who was going to be surprised, I was too. I reached for the door handle to turn it but I didn't. I stopped dead in my tracks as I heard female moans coming from the room. I gathered all the courage I had and swung the door open. My mouth fell open, I froze and my blood ran cold. I clenched my hands together until they started to turn white and I inhaled a deep long breath before opening my mouth to speak. Both their heads snapped towards me as a spoke.
"Lily." I whispered sadly. Maybe we could of worked through it if it had been a stranger. But my best friend. Lily. Who am I kidding I don't care whom he cheated with. If he wasn't happy he should have said so and ended it. There's no excuse for cheating. There's no excuse for what he did. He can say goodbye to his marriage proposal and to me.
"Angie, baby it isn't what it looks like. I swear on my life." He rushed his words out. Pulling his trousers up while stumbling over clothes trying to get near me. I gave him an icy stare which indicated to him I didn't want to breathe the same air as him and I especially did not want him near me or in my sight.
"So you aren't fucking my best friend" I said with venom laced in my voice as I batted my eyelashes and gave the fakest smile I could muster.
"No, well yes bu-" he replied. I rolled my eyes at him. He was caught in the act. There's nothing he can say to change what I saw.
"No buts. Oh wait I forgot about you. You asshole." I turned around getting ready to leave his house. I don't need a best friend and I especially don't need him. I have my career and that's good enough for me.
"If you walk out of this house Angelina, I swear I will" he said warningly
"You'll what, huh, don't you dare threaten me Harvey" I practically shouted. I was ready to start throwing my fists at him but I kept my anger at bay. Trying not to wake up his whole neighbourhood.
"I'll fire you, don't forget I'm your boss" he said in a serious tone
"Just go ahead and fire her baby, I'll be a great manager" Lily said sweetly while clinging onto him like a koala. I felt a liquid rise up my throat and I gagged. I wanted to throw up, they're disgusting and I want nothing to do with them.
"I see you slept your way to the top, shocker, well there's no need to fire me because I resign." I flashed them a fake smile and walked out the house like nothing had happened. Neither of them deserve my tears. I drove to my flat and I started to pack. I have no boyfriend, no best-friend and no job. There were no stars in the sky and there was definitely no light in my life. So I'm going to stay with my cousin for a while... here I come New York City.
