"what's the matter?" Laura, asked around lunch time.

"mm? nothing." I looked away from the saddening text on my phone screen and kept it aside.

canadianswagger : I love her.

I didn't know how to reply, Justin had sent me, rather confusedunicorn  this text last night, after he dropped me home. I couldn't keep lying to him about this. he ought to know.

"Justin?"

"Good morning lovely." he spoke, groggily.

"did I wake you up?"

"no it's alright, what's up?"

"we need to meet."

"well."

I could almost picture him grinning on the other end.

"meet me at 'Auburn Cafe' for lunch?" I asked.

"Is it a date?" he asked.

"Justin, I gotta tell you something."

"is everything fine Lizz?" he sounded concerned.

"Just be there okay?"

"should I pick you up."

"no, i'll manage."

"okay."

~Auburn Cafe~

Justin waited there long enough before deciding to leave. I didn't go. I couldn't go.

My phone buzzed next to the bed I was lying on, the very end of the receiver button had blood on it. I could barely keep my eyes open, I reached out for the phone. the nurse restricted me from doing so. the ambulance was shaking and caused me to wince when I moved. I saw Laura answering the phone.

"Lizz it's been an hour." I could hear Justin's faint voice from the other end.

"Justin, Justin it's me Laura, Lizzy met and accident. we're taking her to the hospital" Laura spoke with sheer panic as she saw me wince and try to remain conscious.

and then, I can't remember much of anything.

~HealthRoot's Hospital~

when my eyes flickered open, they first fell upon Justin. blur but I knew it was him.  I looked around the room, trying to steady my vision, the room was empty and quiet, except the beep of the air conditioner, probably timed, it went on and off every ten minutes. I looked at myself, looked at my hands for any particularly ugly scar I would be having forever. my throat felt dry as I reached for the bottle next to me, shuffling the heap of medicines in the process.

"Hey." Justin took quick steps towards me, oblivious to my waking up a while ago.

"I'm sorry I couldn't come." I whispered.

and all he did was shake his head and 'shush' before handing the bottle over to me.

I couldn't help the anger and irritation I felt towards myself, I couldn't lie, not to Justin.

"I wanted to tell you.." I caught his hand before he'd go call the nurse.

"Lizz. you just woke up, we can talk later okay?" he said, brushing a strand away from my eye.

"but.."

"I promise we'll talk, just get better first." he spoke, knowingly. as if he didn't want to know what I'd say or he already knew. I scratched the last part.

I nodded weakly because I had no energy to argue.

The nurse came in and stuck a thermometer under my tongue. I wanted to get rid of all the tubes that tied me to this bed, run across the room where Justin was and apologize to him.

"you don't have fever, how does your back feel? it was pretty injured yesterday." the nurse smiled.

"I don't know. I just feel weak." I spoke. my voice, barely a whisper now.

"you need rest honey." she touched my cheek.

I hugged mom tight, delivered the same hugs to Laura and dad. Justin just stood there looking. mom walked to where he was and thanked him for something and spoke about something touching his arm eventually. my ears didn't feel as sharp as before so I couldn't understand.

"I'll be back with your lunch okay hon?" mom said as I nodded.

Laura and daddy both kissed my cheek and went outside saying they'd be back from the canteen while I got some rest. which left me and Justin in the room again. I could tell him now.

"Justin." I started.

"before that." he raised a finger, smiling. and from the door entered my little cute hearts, jazzy and Anna.

"hey." I smiled my widest, hoping it didn't look hideous.

"Lizzy!" both of them trotted near my bed as I tried to get up. Justin came closer, holding my back as I winced and finally realized what the nurse was talking about.

"hello. how're you?" I asked them

"shouldn't we be asking you that?" they giggled. I giggled too. Justin smiled.

"yeah, well, i'm alright. just a couple of bruises here and there." I spoke.

"well that's not just a bruise" Jazzy said, touching my forehead, near my hairline.

I touched it too, it felt rough and bloody, almost ugly.

"i'm sure it's just a scratch." I assured, myself more than the two girls.

we talked for a while before the nurse came in again, gave me the second dose of medication and asked me to rest.

"I'm sorry for hating you yesterday. I love you now." Anna whispered in my ear as I hugged them goodbye. I kissed her cheek telling her it's fine. kissed both of them goodbye then.

ten minutes later, Justin took a stool and sat next to me.

"Justin, please don't interrupt now, you really need to know.."

"and you really need rest." he said, taking my hand in his and touching, almost playing with my fingers.

"yeah I do, i'll get it after I tell you this." I fought back

"shh, I promised didn't I? we'd talk when you're well again."

I let out an exasperated sigh.

"could I just ask you one thing?" I spoke.

"yeah?"

"this is ugly, isn't it?" I asked, touching the bruise Jazzy had made me aware of.

the last thing thing that happened before I slept was Justin smiling and kissing the bruise.
