"Isabella, are you even listening to me?" My best friend, Charlotte, asked while throwing a pillow at me.

I stopped scrolling through Instagram and looked at her sheepishly. "Sorry! Sorry, now I am."

She rolled her eyes and flopped down on the bed beside me.

"I just want him back already, Bells. What is taking him so long?" She whined.

The him she was referring to was my twin brother. Carlos wasn't the brightest when it came to relationships. Actually, he wasn't the brightest when it came to a lot of things.

Carlos and Charlie had been dating since they were 15, and while their two and a half years together had been... interesting, to say the least, they were currently broken up or 'just on a small break' as Carlos so urgently put it when I asked him about it.

I tried not to get in the middle of their relationship but sometimes I really did feel like their relationship counsellor and personal therapist. And they really did need one.

"Have you spoken to him after your argument at school?" I asked, laying my head down next to hers and catching a gorgeous whiff of her hair. I really did need to ask her what conditioner she used.

The argument they had was over Charlotte getting insanely jealous of Carl's lab partner, Daniella. Despite Carlos trying to reassure her that nothing was going on between him and Dani, Charlie was not happy.

I didn't exactly blame her, seeing as half the girls in our senior year are just waiting for the power couple to break up, because they're so obsessed with Carlos.

"Ughhh," she groaned, clutching my pillow. "Nope. He answered the door though - I have you to thank for that, you evil snake. I messaged you saying I was outside."

"I thought it was a great opportunity for you both to sort out your differences, actually." Truthfully, I just couldn't be bothered to get out of my warm bed, but she didn't need to know that.

Instead of replying, she buried her face further into my pillows and let out a muffled scream. I winced, thinking about the foundation she'd be getting on to my white, fluffy pillows, but I didn't bother saying anything. I didn't want to anger the Beast.

Charlie and I had met when we were both awkward, scrawny 12 year olds. At first, I had thought she was snobby and incredibly spoiled- I mean she was the only 6th grader with a bedazzled iPhone.

We were paired for a science project and had become best friends right away. She was the only person I trusted with everything. I knew she would never judge me, and I wouldn't dream of ever judging her. She was my Charlie.

That was why I had found it so hard to accept that her and my twin brother were dating. I had thought it meant I couldn't bitch about my brother to her anymore, she wouldn't be able to spend every Friday at my house, and definitely no more sleepovers. Sleepovers were suddenly a Charlotte and Carlos thing.

However, both Charlie and Carlos made sure that I never felt left out, and I loved them for it. They took me with them on dates, even though I hated third-wheeling, and Carlos and I got closer because of our mutual love and respect for Char.  It also meant that Charlie was at my house a lot more, even if it wasn't just for me.

After a long 2 minutes of Charlie groaning, her head finally popped up from my now-foundation-stained pillow and she smiled almost creepily.

"Bells! I forgot to tell you earlier, Taylor said that he had so much fun on your date on Friday night, and he wants to know if you can hang out again."

Before I could even respond, I was cut off by a loud snort.

"Taylor? Is she hot, is she blonde? Does she play the guitar? Is her last name Swift?" Adam asked, leaning against the doorway and laughing at his stupid joke.

Adam stood against my doorframe, his muscly arms crossed over his chest. A dark strand of hair fell between his hazel-green eyes.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. Great. The bane of my life was here. "Just get out Adam, I am really not in the mood."

He smirked, "Come on now, baby. That's not what you said last night. "

Charlie scoffed and threw my hairbrush at him. "You're disgusting, Rodriguez. "

"Adam, I say this as kindly as I possibly can. Fuck off, and annoy someone who cares." I spat.

"Relax, ladies. I'm just here to tell you losers that Carlos and I, and a few guys from the team are throwing a party here in a couple of hours. So you two can skedaddle or whatever, to some place else." Adam said, running a hand through his tousled, black hair.

He winked at us before turning on his heel and sauntering out of my room.

"We're gonna be at this party, by the way!" Charlie shouted at his retreating figure.

I picked up my phone again, and tried to find the meme I was looking at before. I hated Instagram and it's non-chronological order.

From the corner of my eye, I noticed Charlie smiling widely at me. "What now?" I groaned.

"He was so jealous when I mentioned Taylor." She said, grinning ear to ear.

I sighed and looked at my finger nails, "No he wasn't, Lottie. He just likes to make my life hell."

Adam, Carlos, Charlotte and I had been friends longer than I could remember. In fact, at some point we were inseparable.

And now? Adam made sure to piss me off any chance he got.

Which would've been alright if I didn't have the most embarrassingly enormous crush on him.

Charlie rolled her eyes and sighed,
"Isabelle, I've told you before, you either get under him or over him. If you pine after him like this any longer, you'll just end up hurt. And so far you're doing neither."

"Lottie it's not that simple, I'm not you, you know? I can't just go up to the guy I've known my whole life and tell him about my feelings. I'll just be a laughing stock. A joke. "

The truth was, I didn't know how I was meant to compete with the amount of attention Adam got. And the possibility of him not liking me me back was too much - enough to make my stomach churn.

Adam was a 6"3 basketball all-star. Captain of his team, smart, funny, athletic, sexy, beautiful, gorgeous and possibly the love of my life.

"Oh god, please don't start this again, Bellykins. Because you're beautiful and any guy would kill to have you, if you'd just opened up and stopped being so afraid. "

I nodded, even though I didn't agree.

"Well," I said finally, "tell your cousin that he needs to text me the details for our next date. "

Charlie squealed, "yay!"

I smiled at her, rolling my eyes and unpausing the Friends episode we had been watching.
