I looked down at my schedule for the school year.

I stopped at my locker after the bell rung. I had to switch my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th period binders into my locker for the rest of my other periods binders. I looked on the door of my locker at the picture of my brother, Frankie and his best friend, Logan. I smiled as I turned around and grabbed my phone, binders and lunch since it was my lunch period.

"Hey girlie." I heard someone say as they leaned against the locker next to mine. I looked over to see the person leaning on the locker was Logan. Since Frankie and Logan were best friends since 1st grade I grew up with Logan being around the house all the time. He was like my second older brother.

"Hi Logan." I said as I smiled at him and shut my locker. "Lunch?"

He nodded and we started to walk downstairs to the cafeteria. "So how's being a 12th grader feel?" He asked.

"Bull shit. I have six papers due by the end if the week and it's only the first day of school!" I exclaimed.

"You have to get used to that, Ari. It never stops." Logan said and I rolled my eyes playfully. "Can I see your schedule quickly?"

"Uh yeah, sure." I shuffled my things around before getting my schedule out and handing it to him. I watched him as his eyes scanned over my schedule and he smiled.

"We have Art, French, and Algebra together. I think that you have History and Science with Frankie." He handed my schedule back to me and he smiled. "See you 8th period."

I smiled back at him as we entered the cafeteria and went to our separate tables.

---

Soon enough, 8th period came rolling around and I entered Miss West's classroom. "Hello class!!" She exclaimed with excitement. "Please take a seat where ever you like! Those will be your permanent seats for the year!"

Okay, I love this teacher already. I turned to my left and made eye contact with Logan who had entered the room a few seconds before. He pointed at two desks close to the window and I shrugged. He smiled and walked over to them before I followed.

---

Later that night, Frankie, my parents and I all sat down at the dinner table. We ate in silence which is highly unlikely unless something happened between one of us. I looked over at Frankie and he shrugged.

"Mom, Dad, is everything alright?" I asked.

Mom looked up from her plate and we shared a brief eye contact before she looked back down.

"Kids, your mother and I are getting a divorce." Dad said. I dropped my fork in my food. My parents were always the happiest people I've known. They were always happy together and acted like the best couple. They were the best couple I knew.

"Why? Why are you getting a divorce?" Frankie asked, putting down his silverware.

"We aren't happy with each other anymore. Kids, you're going to stay here with your mother and I'm going to move into an apartment." Dad explained. "You'll get to visit me once every other week and on the holidays."

This can't be happening. It just can't. They were perfect for each other.

"You guys aren't being serious. This is a joke, right?" Frankie said as he put both of his hands on the table. "Ari, what do you think about this."

"I think-" I started and I wiped my mouth with my napkin before placing it on my plate. "-that I will be going to bed now. Goodnight." I stood up from my seat and headed upstairs.
