adieu → wattpad edition

     I'm not quite sure where this account is going. I may delete it, I may leave it so you can stare at in memory, I may continue to read but not interact with people. Point is, I'm saying goodbye. Permanently? I'm not sure. But either way this is goodbye.

     Wattpad has been kind to me over the years. It was a place where I could interact with great people and read equally great stories. Thanks to Wattpad, I've realized how much I love graphic design. However, I have watched as Wattpad declined. It's now a place where hate is circulated and people steal stories. I've been trying to find the genuine warmth of the kind side of Wattpad however I fear that it's too late. There's a very small population of humble writers writing because they love it and posting stories because of their passion for literature. Now, it's all about reads, votes, comments, rank, and so forth. Writing has become a competition. It's turned into such an ugly thing. It's come to the point where lots of meaningless reads is worth more than one or two dedicated readers. That's too far for me.

     Wattpad as a whole is starting to disappointment me. It seems like the staff is catering more to the wants of the general public than the needs, even, of the aspiring authors on this website. Wattpad is no longer a network of not-so-hopeless dreamers but instead a place where people believe they can bash other writing and turn something beautiful into a competition. Writing is one of the more pure and untainted things nowadays. We're ruining that. As of now, writing is a flowing waterfall, free of any chemicals or wastes. We're making it a foul, stagnant puddle. 

     Before I go, I ask of you a couple things.

-If you like to write, write. Don't be afraid. If it's what you love, keep doing it. Don't let anyone stop you. If the only thing you write for is the reads, votes, and comments, I would rather you not. Of course if you want to write and want all the above, go for it, but if you're writing just so you can be ranked higher than this person or be number 1 (which I find the thought of absolutely absurb because how can you rank writing if it's a matter of opinion?), please don't. Your selfish stories are blocking the way for new, modest writers who just want a single chance. 

- Remember constructive criticism. There is no such thing as perfect writing, and there is always room for improvement. You have to remember to be polite about it though. Don't flat out insult their writing, especially if you don't tell them how to improve. 

-If you're going to comment "update", don't comment at all. Comments are there so the writer can see what people think, how they feel, and what they should do better. Of course, "update" means that the reader would like more to read, but it doesn't help the writer at all. Should they do better? Did they do something specific that you liked? Does this new thing need changing? You can't leave writers at a loss like that.

-Keep the peace. Nobody likes arguing. If someone is bugging you, ignore it. If it progresses, report them. Also, don't spread any hate. All of us would like to be happy. We don't want our good moods to be ruined, so don't ruin anyone else's good mood.

     Try as hard as you can to make Wattpad a better place. Think of Wattpad as the earth and all this nonsense as the pollution. Nothing will change if you don't try. As for this account, I believe I will continue reading, voting, and commenting, but that will be as far as I go. Once I finish reconstructing my other account, I will start writing and interacting there. However it will be with the 5sos fam only as I have found a majority of them to be generous and humble and, quite frankly, the epitome of the "old Wattpad". Thank you for your cooperation in advance.
