at the hospital

'the x-rays are back hun, you have a buckle fracture.' my doctor whose name is megan tells me.

'what is that?' i ask on the verge of tears not really wanting to know.

'it's sometimes referred to as an 'incomplete fracture' and that's because the break is only on one side of the long bone in your leg. it's most common in children or young adults like yourself, whose bones aren't as brittle as older adults.' she explains

'this fracture, while it may seem painful, is a lot better than i had expected. there will be acute pain but, by definition, these are considered stable fractures. you are very lucky it wasn't unstable dear. we'll put a cast on it, bring you back in a few weeks, and that'll determine wether or not you need surgery.'

'alright, thanks.' i say trying to keep my cool
